Does the Mass Effect 3 extended cut fix what was wrong?

It's better, but still not great.

The concept of the ending with the star child, explaining the motivations of the reapers, and especially the synthesis ending are all still stupid.

And you still don't get to see the full scope of your actions throughout the series. You get to see slides that reflect some of your choices, but you don't get to see your war assets in action on the battlefield. Yeah that's not directly related to the ending, but that's still a disappointment for me.

Had ME 3 shipped with the new DLC ending we would not have this hate for it.Sure they would be those people who dig way to deep into it saying they was betrayed but the majority would have been satisfied.Pretty sure there would not have been the Retake Mass Effect movement.

In my opinion, the Extended Cut fixed the presentation of the endings - it felt actually more like a fully produced part of the game instead the being-rushed-out-the-door-the-week-before-christmas. Also, the EC endings are much more emotionally engaging than the original ending.

The writing is the same. I would've preferred if they didn't decide to stick with it.

So, yeah... something was definately fixed. Not the fact that the person who wrote this shouldn't be a writer, but it made the game better.

To be honest, I didn't hate on the ending all that much. I more enjoyed the journey, not the destination, and it was going to be hard to finish it. Mass Effect on its own could have been a closed story, thinking that beating Sovereign left Harbinger and co stranded and blah. But I won't let the end (which is better than some things I have seen and erased from memory) damage my feelings for a series I loved playing: it was fun, and I enjoyed the story and the emotions portrayed during.

I haven't played the extended cut YET but I went back onto my second playthrough recently and already getting close. As far as I see it, enjoy the game and make up your own mind. If you then cant see the difference, ask

Okay, let's compare the orignal ending to the Extended Cut.

original ending has Mass Relays destroyed after the choices are made, Extended Cut simply damages them to where they can be repaired.

Squadmates somehow instantly appear on the Normandy after Shepard gets blasted by Harbinger in the original ending, while in Extended Cut Shepard calls the Normandy over to evacuate his team before getting blasted.

The Catalyst only vaguely talks about your 3 choices in the original ending, in Extended Cut, he gives you more crucial details about said choices.

I'd say Extended Cut was an improvement, but I would like to know exactly why Bioware left the ending the way it was before releasing Extended Cut.

I thought it actually made the ending worse, for two reasons. It didn't change the ending, and therefore just made the original terrible ending longer, which in turn made it harder to sit through. Secondly, the refusal ending they added is downright childish and insulting. *Doctor Who Spoiler* You remember that episode with starship UK (11th doctor) where you were told about the truth behind how it was able to fly without an engine, you were supposedly given a choice between allowing it to continue, or protesting, but anyone who protested was actually fed to a giant star whale. That's pretty much what the refusal ending like feels to me. They say: choose to accept our bullshit ending or everyone you know and love dies.

Well, it's not as if the galaxy could ever actually have victory against the Reapers. The Power of Friendship doesn't win you interstellar wars against a massively superior foe, no matter what George Lucas says.

The ironic thing is that despite a big point of the critics of the critics of the ending being that having a tragic or sad ending actually makes it more mature, the extended cut goes out of it's way to show that their ending is a happy ending. "See, nobody but Shepard ends up dying, the relays are all fixed, and everything will be great forever! Hell, we're not even going to commit to the fact that Shepard is dead, so please don't be sad," they seem to say. So yes you're right, they should have had an ending for grownups. They don't.

It makes it better in the sense of closure, and understanding what happened to your squadmates and such, so it's a definite improvement. Just don't expect the ending to make any sense whatsoever, extended or not.

If you're capable of critical thinking you will notice a hell of a lot more plot holes and nonsense when you talk with the star child. The fire analogy is one of the dumbest things I've heard in any medium.

So no, it didn't really fix anything. Unless you're the emotional kind of player who cares about closure, and not the analytical player who cares about logical consistency and coherent narrative.

So much for Bioware's artistic integrity. They could have just fixed the god damn ending while they were at it since they didn't have a problem to admit that mistake.

And yet, Harbinger just ignores The Normandy like it's not there. Not only that, but literally minutes left to save the fuckin' galaxy Shepard decides to say a long goodbye to his squad mates. Typical retarded Hollywood scene.

His "explanations" are what makes the EC even worse than the original ending. Everything the star child said in the EC falls apart under the most basic analysis a 6 year old could conduct.

Why?

Throughout the game it is shown that Reapers can be stopped with conventional weapons, provided there are enough of them or by giant worms.

So instead of throwing all your resources at something you don't know how it works or what it does (the Crucible), why not equip every ship you can with Thanix cannons.

This cycle had an advantage none of the previous ones had. Previously the Reapers would take the Citadel and shut-down the Mass Relays (transport and communication). This made transport and communication across systems extremely difficult.

However that wasn't the case this cycle. Species could travel, communicate and organise in a way no previous cycle had been able to

For me a conventional victory would have been possible.
