Well, I finally decided to get a laptop. I wasn't going to be too stingy, but not too epic, so I settled for a nice $1000 USD ($1199 CAD) ASUS laptop from Newegg. Everything was going great.

Then shipping took a week... It was UPS Standard, so with a truck or something. Ok, they're shipping from California to Alberta, that makes sense. I can live with that.

But today, it came, and I'm now left dumbfounded at the stupidity of UPS. They decided to leave the laptop just sitting in front of my door for when I came home today. I'm glad I came home an hour early, as, honestly, someone might have stolen it. I don't live in a great neighbourhood, it's known for molotov cocktail bombings and stabbings.

I mean, at least maybe put it behind the fence, and leave a note? But now I read online that the guys don't even ring the doorbell, just leave it there, so some people have taken the day off, then at the end of the day, open the door and find what they were waiting all day for waiting for them instead.

Quite sad...

Anyone else have something to share? I basically needed to vent this.

Maybe the UPS men are just shy?

I know this is what usually happens to our parcels, when we order stuff off amazon...

UPS! They did it again?

Seriously, that's kind of a low security clearance. I need to go to the local post office to get the PC-hardware I order, and I need to certify that I'm really the person that I am by providing some identity document.

I live in Flint, MI (where Michael Moore hails from, something like the 3rd most dangerous city in the USA), right on the edge of the ghetto. I regularly hear gunshots and/or police/ambulance sirens.

UPS did the exact same thing up until about 6 months ago. They got a new driver or something at that point, and he actually waits for a signature for all my packages, which is a godsend.

Yes... Not to mention I read from Newegg reports that I have to supply a signature.

I mean, it did make my day a whole lot easier and better, I'll give them that. But I can just imagine if it was stolen.

"You've reached UPS."
"Hi, it says on the tracking that my package was delivered, but it wasn't."
"Hold on for 20 minutes while I search it up... Yes, looks like we delivered it to you!"
"Um... no?"
"Prove it!"

I have a.. lets just call it a chest-high wall on my porch, so UPS always seems to put it behind there. Several times they haven't though, so thank god I was home.

My dog likes our UPS guy; he climbed into the truck once when the guy was giving my dad a package and sat in the passenger seat. The guy usually gives him treats and pets him too.

Do you by any chance own a bigass nasty growling dog, that guards your front door against the mentioned molotov cocktail bombings and stabbings? (or just a sign that says you have one)

The Post Office Express guy (as close to UPS as possible in the UK) delivered a parcel a little while ago, and my Alsation rushed out to the car. Unfortunately, she'd bitten him twice before I got hold of her, and she got put down. This is why you stay OUTSIDE the door marked "Do Not Open- Danger! Alsation".

She drew blood twice, once through his arm (through a fleece and a long-sleeved shirt), once on his arse (and tore his trousers badly. I think it was 8 or 9 stitches in all.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog; we had a similiar incident where some stupid woman actually went through our yard towards the back, where our old German shepard was kept. The dog was literally chained to a metal spike in the ground and she walked within reach of him. After the dog growled at her for a minute, he bit her left hand. She pressed charges, but luckily we got a good judge who pointed out it was her own fault.

We've never had that problem with our current alsation. He only attacks humans and stray dogs if we give him a verbal command.
