Played Devil May Cry 3. Loved it. Especially because Dante is so awesomely cool.

I'm less interested however in DMC 4, simply because Dante is not the main character, and I hate the look and general concept of Nero. Is that wrong?
Well, you do play a solid chunk of the game - more or less all the levels Nero does - as Dante, and he's still steals the show whenever he turns up. It's not like there's no Dante at all. And really, the gameplay is the most important aspect of a Devil May Cry game, and even though it's not the best link in the series, it's probably the closest thing you have to getting more DMC3.

It does indeed!

This doesn't make me a Dante fanboy-type guy does it? :/

Of course not. That would entail writing disturbing fanfiction and drawings and posting them all on Deviant Art.

...you haven't done that, have you?

Not at all. Making a thread just to say you like Dante over Nero more kinda is. (plus the vage threat title)

I would agree (from Youtubing the first fight scene between Nero and Dante) that they look worryingly similar.

At least they could have made Nero's coat fully blue, or something. And given him different coloured hair, cos I couldn't tell what the f was going on half the time...

Maybe dress him in pink to match his personality?
Am I the only person here who knows why they look similar?

Yes.

Well, I don't know the exact details, only that they're somehow related. I always assumed Nero was Vergil's kid, but I 'unno.

No, but I do find it odd however that you hate the *look* of Nero, when he LOOKS THE FUCKING SAME AS DANTE!!!

The general consensus among fans is that Nero is the reincarnation of Vergil.

What exactly would you define as "cheap"?

Oh, and I'm guessing that, like previous DMC, it's ludicrous to play with mouse + keyboard without expecting broken fingers?
I would say cheap is $20 (USD) and below. And you would have to be a mutant of some kind to be able to play it to its full potential on a mouse and keyboard. You could just spam the grab function, but that gets boring after awhile and is ineffective against the bosses unless you sword rape them first. Also being switched to Dante midway through the game will fuck up that whole grab plan.

That would make me a sad person if it turned out to be true. No true fan would ever condemn Vergil to such a sad fate. Or is my bias against nero just getting in the way of proper judgement?

You're being biased I think.
20 or so odd years seems a bit long since Vergil was beat as Nelo Angelo, right? And he probably didn't reincarnate right after he was beat. I like to think his spirit is possessing the sword, which is using Nero as a channel and possibly (key word) partially possessing him as well

Not at all. According to one of the designers, they wanted to start off the first next-gen title in the series with a new character so that players who never got to play the other two Devil May Cry games wouldn't feel lost. It was supposed to immerse new players more easily while maintaining a level of aesthetic continuity with the other two games for the fans.

Personally, I was excited when I first heard about Nero. I didn't actually mind that Dante wasn't going to be the main character of this entry, as Dante already got a good bit of screen time in previous entries. Also, hearing about Nero's abilities helped to get me excited about it. However, I can understand why many people weren't crazy about Dante being replaced.

Anyway, now that I've commented on-topic, now for something slightly less relevant. I surprises me how many people find number 3 the best in the series. Are there any other people who find number 1 vastly superior to the other two?

The reason Dante and Nero look different is in their clothes, really. Nero wears more blue on his coat, Dante is all red. Plus Dante has flare trousers.

Another big difference is in size. Dante is stockier and looks more manly than Nero. Plus Dante usually waves Rebellion around with two hands during big fights. Nero has a wierd glowing arm...thing.

EDIT:
Also, speaking of Rebellion, it's huge in comparison to Nero's sword. (Whatever that's called...?)

MGS2 syndrome

dude think i dantes fighting style is on so many levels, waaay more complex than neros .... (LOOL nero is only 1 letter away from ne... ... you know what, forget it)

nero is enjoyable but much less rewarding and hardcore .. i hated that there wasn't even a mode that let you play the whole thing as dante ...i mean SERIOUSLY ... the ability to change styles in real time?? ... that's every true stylers wet dream ... and we only have 30% of the game to master it
