Nosebleeds aren't the only health hazard emotional reactions in anime. You know those giant drops of water that appear out of characters' heads? That's a symptom of severe dehydration!

Okay, now do Wile E. Coyote next and show how him falling off a cliff actually ends with him as nothing more than a bloody smear and a mushy pile of flesh on the floor instead of how it usually goes!

I think One Piece actually made it so that a character actually almost died because of his frequent nosebleeds.
And here I wondered why one piece was so popular. It's stuff like that that just puts a smile on your face.

I should read up on the old wives' tale thing though. I don't remember why this is a thing to begin with, I just know they do it to show certain characters are perves. Or accidental ones.

Tsunderes annoy me, especially badly written ones. Why do they beat/scold at "potential love interest" mostly out of their own confusion? It just makes you feel bad for the victim in the first place, since they mostly did nothing to deserve it. Is this why this archetype is so popular; it encourages sadism?

How about Looney Toons? Gettin' hit with buckshot from pointblank range will leave you a LOT worse for wear, Mr. Daffy Duck. =P

The #1 way you can tell someone is a huge anime fan: they take the piss out of anime tropes at any given opportunity. I always giggle heartily to myself when Grey & Cory do strips like this, because I haven't seen a single one that isn't funny yet.

So... a girl does the Marilyn Monroe skirt routine and they guy has a haemorrhage and... okay.

I feel I am missing some vital context here. Like when I didn't get the Yaoi hands joke. Anyone care to fill me in?
It's an anime thing, dudes get explosive nose bleeds when they see something sexy. I'm not really sure why nosebleeds became the short hand for erections though.
It pretty much something to do with nosebleed= perverted thought, in another word, ejaculation I guess.

When you think about that kind of reasoning and speculation as a trope, it's a pretty strange/morbid way of expressing sexual desire. Then again, I believe it's fair to say that there are a lot of sexually repressed teens/adults in Japanese cities so that puts some sense in it.

There was a timw when Japanese men got very understated nosebleeds in anime. I miss those understated days and their ordinary ways.

Also, this was hillarious. XD

The whole "nosebleed" thing is just based on a Japanese old wives' tale linking sexual arousal and high blood pressure. It became really popular because it's a good PG13 way of showing a guy getting horny (Japanese animators of old were also fans of getting shit past the radar on syndication before they were allowed full reign like nowadays), but with time it became overused to the point of tedium even when it's not needed (though I suppose Japanese must still find it funny).

Research I've done suggests it's based on an old Japanese myth because of people that had hepatitis or simply the air being incredibly dry. Arousal was tied with increases in blood pressure which combined with weakened blood vessels in the nose led to nosebleeds, so they just began to associate it as a shorthand comedy metaphor.

This actually kinda happened in One Piece once. Sanji, the romance loving chef, was stuck on an island with transvestites for 2 years. Because of that the mere sight of a woman caused him to get violent nosebleeds. At one point it was so bad he required a blood transfusion.

In most anime, whenever a guy sees something sexy, he comically shoots blood from his nose. Happens all the time, and is actually based on an old japanese wives tale.

Look up Nosebleed on TvTropes and you'll get the context.

School girls skirts should really come with a warning label.
And i thought anime was weird enough already, I've never even heard of this before. It sounds incredibly creepy.

I noticed something about that... On DBZ Piccolo has those almost any time a Saiyan does anything... well... Saiyan-like. I imagined it was a migraine brought on by years of being frustrated by those damnamble monkey people who've basically marginalized him as he once was the most feared fighter on the planet.
Super-Saiyan Migraine which he channels into his special beam cannon. Thats why its lethal.

In Anime (Japanese animation genre) males (and sometimes females) often get nosebleed while sexually aroused.
Never understood why, but it's sometimes happens.

P.S. C'mon people, we can do it!
P.P.S. And by "it" I mean beating this horse into bloody pulp. If we are lucky enough Zhukov will be scared to ask any question on Escapist ever again >:)
