Webdesign is like proper design. You just make everything look sterile and nice to look at in a magazine. When it comes to actually using and navigating through it, it's hell.
I miss the internet of old, when pages were simple and accessible. Back then links where flying around the page, sure, but at least you could find them. They weren't hidden behind drop down menus, or options in pop-up pages.
One of my friends is a webdesigner of sorts, I remember his reaction when he saw TVTropes.org. He simply stared at it for a few seconds and went "ew". Well at least on TVTropes you can find stuff. I've seen the sites he builds, they tend to be like every other site out there. It takes me several minutes to find out how the site has been built before I can actually try to enjoy browsing it.
Escapist isn't too bad by the way. A few options are annoying and hard to find, but then again I barely use those. Though that might be simply because I can't be bothered to click too many links to find standard pages.
