Ladies and Gentlemen, there is a new Hitchhikers Guide book coming out.

its' being written by Eoin Colfer, who wrote the Artimus Fowl series. I have never read any of those books, but do you people think that he's capable of handling Arthur Dent and his Minions?

FUCK!

Eoin is good, but his series has gone downhill lately. Don't let him corrupt another great franchise!

I'll read it, but it won't be Adams, so I won't consider it canon or real. Basically professional fan-fiction, however oxymoron-ical that sounds.

What? Another author taking charge of a dead book series? I've never heard of that before...
If he screws up we'll never hear the end of it. Bad idea.

NOOO!!!
Leave it alone you bastards.
Considering that the fourth and fifth books weren't even planned by Douglas Adams, this will in all probability be terrible...

This is just wrong on so many levels. I tried Artemis Foul and never really got into it, but even if a resurected Dovstoevsky would team up with Charlie Brooker I wouldn't aprove of this unholy idea.

Seriously, this is just wrong.

This is a disaster, the series should have ended at So Long, Mostly Harmless was crap. Now it's being resurrected without it's author?!

Yeah, it's really just a cheap cash-in. Which seems odd, because you never think of a literature industry. AF was a decent series (the first was the best because you weren't really sure who to root for, yes Artemis was evil but I at least respected a good plan and wanted it to come to fruition), but I don't really see the point of this. Well, I do, but I'm trying not to be cynical here.
But who knows? Comic book characters switch authors over the years as their old ones die, and new comics movies at least are really good. This could be in the same vein. We'll have to see.

Might I vote a yes I think he's more than capable. I may have to duck when I say this but Adams wasn't actually that great as a writer. I loved the hitchhikers books, however he hated writing and his manager had to lock him in a portacabin to make him finish the radio series. He was a better script writer than a novelist!

Eoin Colfer could bring a new vitality to the series. It gauls me to say this but progress isn't always bad.

I just finished reading Devil May Care. Didn't think it was great. It was Sebastian Faulks 'writing as Ian Fleming' according to the cover, and I think it suffered because he was trying too hard not to write as himself. Also barely a page went by without a subtle wink to past Bond stories, as though Faulks was trying to prove himself to Bond fans.

I don't understand why this is happening? I mean, Hitchiker's is great with a capital G, but it's not like the characters or settings are *hhugely* iconic. Why doesn't Colfer just write his own zany Sci-Fi book, with a whole new load of characters. I just don't get this.

Not meaning to be contentious, but the last few books in the Hitch Hiker's series were somewhat lacklustre, could this guy really do any worse?

Can't remember much of book 4, but book 5 was not even finished, and went all kinds of loopy... I don't really know if I want a new book in that sort of vein, but the first books were pure, original comedy gold. Perhaps, in order to keep an open mind, I'll take a look at this acknowledging that Eoin is writing it and not expecting more of Adam's genius, just a continuation of those crazy characters' adventures. Then again, AF doesn't do it for me and always seemed too childish and silly in too many ways - or perhaps 2 books isn't enough to form a coherent impression?
