The new Doom 4 game is due from ID Entertainment. What does the gaming community want from the new horror game?
Doom 3's plot is much closer to the original Doom's than it is to Half-Life's. Hell, if anything it was Half-Life that copied Doom's "monsters coming through portals from another world" thing.Gerazzi said:Better physics, better enemies, different plot.
JESUS CHRIST I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PULLED HALF LIFE IN SPACE.
Did you miss the parts in the original Doom where they turned the light off on you, or had you going through darkened corridors, etc., in attempts to scare you?NoDamnNames said:Doom is not a horror game, it is a fight your way tooth and nail out of hell while being one bad mother. And to save your pet bunny.
I was referring to Heretic and Final, not doom 1.JediMB said:Did you miss the parts in the original Doom where they turned the light off on you, or had you going through darkened corridors, etc., in attempts to scare you?NoDamnNames said:Doom is not a horror game, it is a fight your way tooth and nail out of hell while being one bad mother. The big difference is that the old games weren't as realistic, so the monster closets and such didn't bother anyone as much, and also that it was less darkened due to the limited tech of the time. And the number of on-screen enemies on the screen at any given time, I suppose, but that started going down way back when they did the original Quake, and is a limit that comes when you want the game to look as good as it possibly could.
my bigger problem was the space marine cliche. And not the portals to other worlds thing. I more cared about the scientists...JediMB said:Doom 3's plot is much closer to the original Doom's than it is to Half-Life's. That will be the expansion pack knowing game designers.Panken said:Flashlight+gun=win.
aye, those were the days.Shycte said:GET TO THA CHOPPA!
Uhm, I mean, get to the basics.
I hope that DOOM 4 takes us back to the uncomplicated shooting/chainsawing of hordes of undeads and demons.
Just to get spawnedkilled and having myy ass handed to me by Cyberdemon.
Good Times....

And Doom kind of started the whole thing so doesn't have a lot of room to innovate. So I think they should just cheese it up to the max; massive guns, hundreds of monsters, heavy metal soundtrack. Unapologetic gaming smut, that's what we want. Any kind of concession like a cover system or an attempt at a plausible plot will ruin it.
