That thing looks awful.

Pistols aren't really my thing, never actually fired one, but if I did I'd probably go for something historic like an SAA or a Webley, or that Five-seveN thing with its funny little bullets.

Thought the whole idea of a double barrel was either:

a.) birdshot in one for hunting, and 00/ball/slug in the other in case a deer/unfriendly native rocked up.
b.) different chokes for different ranges.

If you want a double barrel pistol, who not get a Derringer?
At last! I've been waiting for that word to come up for the past two pages.

There are a number of British soldiers who would beg to differ.Successful bayonet actions have taken place in Afghanistan and Iraq. Clearly no-one wants to be in that close but at pistol range things are hardly peachy.

One of the primary reasons longarms are issued to officers over sidearms is to stop making them such obvious targets.

Not sure about this wounding round rubbish, if you're shooting someone then killing is your objective, especially within effective pistol range. At close quarters mearly wounding an enemy is a bad idea.

Who wants to bet that the next thing they do is 'update' the M28 Thompson to utilize C-Mags and RIS Rails? I shudder at the thought...

Seriously, i'd love the ability of a removable RIS rail, think of all the holograph sights i can put on it? Ruining classics for the win!

OT: Seems like they just welded two M1911's and magazines together.
Bleh, i'd prefer akimbo.

you know the word derringer is just a misspelling of Henry Deringer's last name... so ya not that classy... also they existed before 1866
I stand corrected - I got the year wrong! What an absolute fool I must look!

But seriously, it was a joke, man! No need to be snarky with everyone because you've gotten into an argument with someone about the relative merits of different types of ammunition :p

Maybe you need educating on what a real gentleman is.

This is what real gentlemen use. Wouldn't even take off their tophat.

kick is the real enemy with handguns, not limited power. I would be intrigued if this was like a .22 handgun, but as a heavy caliber I'm not interested. Just makes repeated shots and hitting a moving target all the more difficult.

actually those "Successful bayonet actions" were not actual planned ordered actions but just isolated incidents that just happened to not turn out extremely bad ... the last actual bayonet charge that was ordered and considered a real action that was effective happened in the Korean war.. tho even those are debatable as to whether they were actually effective or just a very lucky suicide charge

also issuing officers ARs instead of pistols does absolutely nothing to make officers less obvious targets... any idiot can read rank tabs... the whole issuing officers ARs instead of pistols started in the air force with a report on the effectiveness of pistols in combat (cause they have a lot of time on their hands to dick around and generate said reports) who generally doesn't even put officers anywhere near the field... hell those idiots still insist on saluting in the field so obviously identifying officers to the enemy is the last thing on their minds

and yes the whole "wounding is just as good" line is bullshit... but it never the less is still a line used to justify using the weak light weight rounds like the 9mm and 5.56... I mean I guess it makes sense if you are using it to justify say a police officer carrying a 9mm but to justify issuing it to a soldier is bullshit... then again no one will listen to the grunts opinion on the matter and they will keep issuing them because it's all about the money and we have massive stockpiles and big money contracts out on those rounds... there is a reason most spec forces units have switched over to using the 6.5, 6.8, 7.62 variants and .45s because they are small enough to get away with it without having to cost the government massive amounts of money

if you think we use the weapons we use because they are "the best available for the job" than you need a reality check... we use the weapons we use because they are the cheapest and considered the absolute least required to get the job done
THe Iraq one was extremely effective.

If you can make out a man's rank tab at standard range then you likely have amazing eyesight. The DPM rank slides are hard to make out at close quarters, let alone range. You can work out a man with a rifle from a man with a pistol at beyond the effective range of most assault rifles.

At what point did I say that the weapons being used are those that are the best available for the job. I never mentioned or intended to imply it, especially in thwe way you meant it. I know that during my officer training if I didn't use the best available weapon for the job then I'd get a bollocking, but then again available means exactly that and the best weapon made isn't available to me, because its decided that another weapon does the job sufficient for less (or the bribe from that weapons sales team was better/salesman went to the same school as the head of the procurement team etc).

Side-arms aren't issued in addition to long arms as the situations where they are as or more effective as a rifle are very limited and it's an extra cost.

If your clearing a house size building with guns them in all likelihood you want the inhabitants alive, or other reason why putting your life at risk is worth it. The big reason that smgs and pistols aren't used for this in the army outside of special forces, is that's extra weapons to train on, extra weapons to source etc for little gain.

If I've got a sword in my cane and I'm close enough to slap you, how do you really think this is going down?

Dueling gun vs cane sword? This should be interesting, make sure the survivor posts it on Youtube.

I predict the gun owner will win if he get a clean, steady, first shot off. If however he misses...well he won't have the chance to reload.
I will if I run away! HAHAHAH!

They just slapped two of them together, they didn't even both giving it a single trigger, anyone with access to welding equipment could accomplish the same result and this is meant to be one hundred years' progress? Really?
