THe Iraq one was extremely effective.Budweiser said:actually those "Successful bayonet actions" were not actual planned ordered actions but just isolated incidents that just happened to not turn out extremely bad ... the last actual bayonet charge that was ordered and considered a real action that was effective happened in the Korean war.. tho even those are debatable as to whether they were actually effective or just a very lucky suicide chargePetromir said:There are a number of British soldiers who would beg to differ.Successful bayonet actions have taken place in Afghanistan and Iraq. Clearly no-one wants to be in that close but at pistol range things are hardly peachy.Budweiser said:again in modern warfare pulling a pistol is about as useful as fixing your bayonet... that is to say if that order is ever given you are dead already
One of the primary reasons longarms are issued to officers over sidearms is to stop making them such obvious targets.
Not sure about this wounding round rubbish, if you're shooting someone then killing is your objective, especially within effective pistol range. At close quarters mearly wounding an enemy is a bad idea.
also issuing officers ARs instead of pistols does absolutely nothing to make officers less obvious targets... any idiot can read rank tabs... the whole issuing officers ARs instead of pistols started in the air force with a report on the effectiveness of pistols in combat (cause they have a lot of time on their hands to dick around and generate said reports) who generally doesn't even put officers anywhere near the field... hell those idiots still insist on saluting in the field so obviously identifying officers to the enemy is the last thing on their minds
and yes the whole "wounding is just as good" line is bullshit... but it never the less is still a line used to justify using the weak light weight rounds like the 9mm and 5.56... I mean I guess it makes sense if you are using it to justify say a police officer carrying a 9mm but to justify issuing it to a soldier is bullshit... then again no one will listen to the grunts opinion on the matter and they will keep issuing them because it's all about the money and we have massive stockpiles and big money contracts out on those rounds... there is a reason most spec forces units have switched over to using the 6.5, 6.8, 7.62 variants and .45s because they are small enough to get away with it without having to cost the government massive amounts of money
if you think we use the weapons we use because they are "the best available for the job" than you need a reality check... we use the weapons we use because they are the cheapest and considered the absolute least required to get the job done

I predict the gun owner will win if he get a clean, steady, first shot off. If however he misses...well he won't have the chance to reload.
Hmmmm, this is the sort of thing that needs science. Somebody get me a scientist!Hazy992 said:I have a gun at point blank range.
