Sounds about rightWarpZone said:Just remember Whedon's Gun... if there's a chick standing next to the mantle in the first act, she will get shot in the third act.
*Edit: (Unless there's a sword on the mantle, then she will go nuts with it and kill like 50 dudes.)
...comic?! What?!Fudj said:Hopefully we get some Johnny Snow, he was funny in the comic
I don't think the goal of staying true to the themes of the original necessarily precludes a happy ending. For example, Dr. Horrible might go through a sort of redemption arc, rejecting his role as a villain and losing his fame/power but gaining satisfaction with his life. It would be kind of predictable (especially since Whedon has already written that story with other characters), but it would be happy and it would be consistent with the themes of the original. Alternately, Dr. Horrible might "grow into" the role of the villain, embracing it even further and learning to derive satisfaction from being evil. Which would be...sort of happy. For him, anyway.Lieju said:Possible. But no matter how he does it, it will not have a happy ending. Bittersweet at best. The thing is, the ending of Dr.Horrible's sing-along blog was a good ending for it, a happy ending would not have had such an impact, and people who think this sequel will give him a happy ending don't seem to understand Joss Whedon and story-telling.Epicspoon said:what if he brings her back via time shenanigans?Lieju said:That's what I always felt he would do. Of course, it would all end horribly. There will be no happy ending.bazaalmon said:I wasn't expecting a sequel, but I'm looking forward to some more great tunes sung by NPH. I think the story could possibly continue from where it left off. I'd like to see what Dr. Horrible does next. Also, Felicia Day!Maybe he goes all Dr. Frankenstein and resurrects Penny. Or at least tries. That would make for a fun story.
I would be very disappointed if it did end happily, undoing the meaning of the first part.
Dr.Horrible got what he wanted (or thought he wanted), only to feel empty because of all he had to sacrifice. Penny, the person who was working on the grass-roots level and actually making a difference died and was totally ignored by the media that only focused on exciting, flashy heroes who solved problems by punching them, and later a villain who solved problems by shooting them.
Not to mention that as much as I like Dr.Horrible, he was a villain. And as much as I can identify with the nerd's desire to get back on the world and everyone who laughed at you, that's only becoming a bully himself.
For me it would be worse if the ending was happy without it really feeling like it should be.
I'll admit a sequel sounds like fun, but I agree that the original kind of petered out. The first time I saw it I didn't really mind, but the second time I just couldn't get into it and I've never thought to watch it again.subtlefuge said:3. Dr. Horrible kinda meandered and pissed on itself in the third act. The songs were less clever, the tone didn't quite set in, and the big loss of innocence/successful villainy moment was due to completely random circumstances (i.e. bad basic storytelling).

I seem to vaguely recall Joss hinting that he wanted to continue the story waaay back when this first came out, but this is a total and very welcome blindside to me.
