I loved Mass Effect and thought ME2 was better. Sorry, just had to do it.

I like how Dragon Age 2 will be, to be honest. Because now it's a little like Mass Effect. Fully voiced for both genders, background already decided, etc.

And while I do appreciate being able to fill in my background and play whatever race I want, I also understand that playing an elf pretty much did what Yahtzee said it did. Yes, I am saying Yahtzee was right. If you were an elf, other than the Origin which was a pre-laid out story for you to follow and only took up the first 5-10% of the game, the only times you ever really knew you were an Elf, was when people said, "Oh, you're an elf. Can't stand your kind"
It did more than you think. There were several points where I got unique dialogue options as a Dwarf Noble. For example:
Cailen: I want you to be the one to light the beacon.
Me: The last time I was on a side mission like this I ended up exiled.
Duncan: Don't worry; you're safe from the politics of the Dwarven courts here.
You and your facts making my argument seem pointless. Off with you!

There weren't a whole lot of these moments though, considering the expansiveness of the game. I don't blame Bioware for that. That would just be too many options to go through for each character.

Don't mention ME2, the people that hated ME liked ME2 which means it failed as a sequel, but succeeded as a game, which isn't the same thing
Lies. There are many, many people who love both, myself included.
How can you say a game is bad before you actually play it? You must be psychic

The best thing about Dragon Age was character costumization , and they are taking it away=(
No they aren't. They just took out the cosmetic changes which don't affect anything except the odd reference.

Eh...From what I saw at a friends house, combat in Dragon Age was luck based, and from all the DLC, it's like half the game must have been missing.
Not true. The DLC was actually a very small part of the game, you could have happily gone through it without getting DLC. The DLC are all short and not really worth it if you ask me.

And the combat wasn't really luck based. Sure, sometimes you could get lucky, but it wasn't luck based.

This is why I don't read announcements or watch trailers because things change or can only be a small part of the game. I'm picky just like you and I've found only two developers have never let me down; Valve and BioWare. I loved ME1 and loved ME2 even more. DA and ME were planed in development as three games just so you know.

But they could just reduce the length of the game somewhat couldn't they? I mean isn't DA:O around 80-100 hours long? I mean cut 20 hours of it to make what's left a deeper experience and you aren't going to lose all that much.

It reminds me a bit of Mass Effect 2 where Bioware's response to a feature not working fully was just to remove rather than trying to fix it.

Well, the Origins were fine as they were. As a human Noble, it was brought up in contextually appropriate instances that I was, indeed, a noble. Otherwise, there was no need for it to pop up any more than it did. In fact, being a human noble opens up the option of a happy ending for a female Warden romancing King Alistair.

Wheres the character port feature they put in mass effect, thats what I want to know.

I had a badass city elf and I worked out his whole backstory and everything, because I'm just that cool. and now I get to play some generic guy who i don't care about. Makes me sad :( I wanted to know about Morrigans story how all that turned out, not any of this new stuff. :( not happy at all, i loved dragon age origins and am dissapointed i cant continue the story of my kickass elf :(

Unfortunately I think it's one of those things where if you do one thing, you upset one group of gamers, but if you do it the other way, you'll upset a different group of gamers.

Some gamers would likely have enjoyed playing a shorter game with deeper dialog responses based on your background. But then the people who didn't care about that as much would complain the game was too short.

I don't disagree with you, I think a deeper game would be better than a longer game. But it's possible we are in the minority. I try to think like a businessman when I look at these decisions. Since the bottom line is money, I'm going to make the decisions that sell the greatest number of games.

Some gamers look at $60 price tag and think, "How much per hour is that game going to cost me?" I think this bargain hunting type of gamer is stifling some great game design and making things like Planet Mining a must have filler for games like ME. It's quantity over quality.

All that being said, I still think DA:2 could be a great game even without the origins. I'll wait to make up my mind until more info comes out.

I thought DA:O was great as far as depth vs length. For what it had I could develop a main character within the confines of the Origin as well as during the actual game itself. The fact that I am then shoehorned into playing as someone else with much of the major considerations that went into making a character in DA:O decided for me leads me to believe I won't enjoy it as much.

Bottom line for me: they removed features I liked to replace them with things I don't like.

Maybe I should reinstall Dragon Age... honestly the game got boring for me.

I didn't have that problem with Mass Effect, btw.

I liked both mass effects and I would like to point out that they are not taking away the character customization you can still change the way you look and it is far to early to start screaming about the loss of the origins character back story system because you don't know if they took that away. All we know is that your name is Hawke and concept art on what the Generic human Hawke looks like, that's it that's all we know.

This is bad news.

One of my favorite things in Dragon Age was the fact that my character was totally mine.
and it will be yours...its going to be like DA1 where you made a character and there were like...12 diffrent ways you could rise up and be the champion. i doubt there going to go YOU ARE A HUMAN WARRIOR!! DEAL WITH IT!!

But I won't be able to, say, choose an elf, then the gender, then the class, and still have Origins to choose from in addition to the physical appearance and the depth of the story itself.

Let's hope so... I've no problem playing a human, I just like to create him/her.

Yes, let's take away the uniqueness of Dragon Age to please all of the sex craved Mass Effect fanboys.

The graphics were not bad. The customization was great. The combat system was a refreshing change from shooters and God of War Button Mashing. The lack of voice immersed more than your characters talking for you. If you want another Mass Effect, wait for a new one. Don't try to change Dragon Age to your standards, which are already met by many other games.

Neither did I. I just think of Mass Effect fanboys as people who originally played the game because there was the promise of nudity.

In ye olde D&D, characters were randomly generated.
You didn't get to decide where he/she came from or what he/she stood for.
You got an adventure, your character's alignment and stats to make shit up as you go.
And it was a good system.

I see this as something similar.
An interesting take on it. I really don't care that much about races however I really feel that dragon age should just use the baulders gate 2 class system. More classes the better really in my opinion I did feel that there wasnt much difference between two warriors in the first one.
