Rogues are great if you plan them with reason.

Earliest part is the hardest, but later a dex rogue never gets hit and a dualwielding rogue does more damage than warriors. Combat stealth is brutal.
Traps and grens are also good and as a rogue you can develop the skills faster.

Mages are generally better, specced as bloodmages and/or arcane warriors, but rogues come close after a dozen levels.
It's the warriors that suck. Only a templar/champion tank can be moderately useful.
THANK YOU
I freakin' HATE the warrior class.
I coulden't even beat the Lothering Chanter Board first quest.

My son killed her before ever getting her (trying to impress stupid Morrigan) I watched him do it and couldn't pull my jaw back for nearly an hour! Plus she has some great dialogue with Alistair and with Zevran :)
I hope you sent him to bed without dinner and grounded him for the weekend.

Would that I could!
However he is nearly 19 and bigger than me, but I gave him such a look...............

It's a tough game.

I had to drop the difficulty halfway through my game as a warrior, but I'm determined to keep it at normal for my mage playthrough.
Mage was very dominate for me. Arcane Warrior + Blood Mage = hax.
It certainly helps a lot being able to heal yourself in the solo parts without wasting all your potions.

That's the biggest problem I have, I can never seem to have enough potions and they run out real quick.
Go mage tower and get Wynne. Your healing needs will be all covered if you set up her tactics properly.
I love Wynne... my game got way easier when I found her.

SHe needs micro management though, she never does what I tell her in the tactcis screen!

You can kill Wynne?

I did not know that! (nor will I ever try it)

I played the rogue as a warrior, it worked well. I did have it on easy so I could rush through the story line 'cos I lent it and a 360 off a friend who wanted it back in 3 days.

I used the attack were it swings both weapons in an arc, if you run right into the middle of a large pack of opponents and do that it works quite well, just make sure you put alot of points into your health and the one that lets you avoid hits.

I'd just like to ask a question and get some opinions, is the rogue the worst class to play? You can't stealth during combat, your unique class attack namely backstab gives you all of about 4 extra damage per attack. This is pathetic seeing as the warrior can do more damage with its basic attack from the front. What the hell is the point in playing a class that still sucks even in its specialities?

Do i just suck? What am i doing wrong? Im a fairly low level, around 9 or 10 but i really dont think im doing anything particularly wrong. I get behind enemies while stealthed and use my amazing backstab ability to do all of about 1 and a half times normal damage which fucking sucks anyway...what the fuck? I know im not meant to be some sort of juggernaught but i am meant to be the critical hitter, assisting and making the killing blows to enemies otherwise occupied with the bigger tank threats. Even my speical attacks seem to do no more damage than my normal ones. FOr instance i recently aquired a few duel weapon attacks like riposte and cripple, both of which seem to do absolutely nothing...
Actually... no... the rouge class simply requires a more tactical approach than the other classes... I.E. start setting traps and working out how to best lure your enemies into them. Then there are the stealth kills. Combat stealth and backstab are your rogue's best friends. I actually managed to get through the entire game as a rogue without dying.

I'm pretty much just a fire-bomb-throwing Warrior that can summon animals to help me.

Oh, and I can turn invisible.

Read this thread, it tells you how to make your rogue do massive damage.

Dex daggers for becoming a god who is nigh unkillable.

Cun daggers for becoming a god who kills everything and can open/unlock/persuade anyone or anything.

Also are you sure your backstabbing in the little black quarter/half circle behind the enemy? It's an auto crit for double normal damage, so if you only get 4 extra damage, what kind of crap daggers are you using?

Also get Momentum, asap.

I know, why would you, right?
But yeah, just like you can
kill Zev-baby before you ever get him :-O
I totally watched it happen right in front of my Wynne loving eyes! Why would you opt to go through the game without her powerhouse healing (she saved my ass a few times)
Basically
He went to the circle, and had Morrigan in the party was playing as a bit of a badass and so the conversation (led on by Morrigan) led to Wynne saying she would never allow an apostate through. So instead of re loading (like you would) he just killed her! Shocking, right?

Depends how you play them, archer rogue is pretty good when combined with ranger and bard (Leliana in my game) team buffing, long range damages and summoning melee fighters.

But yeah melee rogue is all about the backstab, or you might as well go a dual wield warrior. Sneaking and the increased angle of backstab help a lot. A duelist assassin isn't too bad a class. It's essential you have a good tank to draw agro (Alistair or Shale).

But nothing seriously can compete with a mage, especially arcane warrior, which people successfully solo (as in no party) on nightmare with.

As a mage i got my arse handed to me a lot. It seems pretty unbalanced class wise to be honest.
Two words: Arcane Warrior, they are unbalanced in a good way.

But seriously as others have pointed out Mages are the bomb, they can do healing, buffing, control and area of attack. Arcane warriors can also dps and tank. It's hard at the start, but heal and cone of cold are essential for a mage.

Bested the game with an extremely balanced group consisting of Morrigan, and three rogues - Being a rogue can be harsh at first, but the moment you are able to get coup de grace, most of the game gets quite easy (With the exeption of unstunnable boss mobs, who still handed my ass to me, on a regular basis)

Rogues
They are easy as fuck on both consoles and PC.
Put points in stealth as much as possible, wait for your teammates to attack then go behind the most difficult target, stabby stabby

the thing about the rogue is that you need to get yor dex as high as you can.
a high dex equals

* less attacks hitting you
* more chance that your hits connect to the enemy
* dex affects the strength of attacks from daggers and bows

make sure you dex is high and also ensure your cunning is high as well
if your stil having trouble maybe the rogue class just isn't for you, in which case pick the warrior of the mage. they are both great to play from what i have heard.

I myself always play as a rogue and i have no trouble and enjoy the combat style.

my first character in DA:O was rogue, i had no problems finishing the game on Hard, and i played my rogue pretty bruteforce swashbuckler rather than stealthy type. All i needed was letting my tank (Alistar/Shale) get the hits on them and just go backstabby while using stun every chance i got.

It is just important to do everyones favorite Fade part as soon as possible, its easy thanks to the shapes you can use, and it gives you nice boost to several stats that helps you later.

Actually, I loved playing as a Scrapper Rogue!

It's challenging, intelligent, and you have to plan ahead to be able to get the class to be workable, it's really fun to have a thinking man's class, which is the rogue.

Note: The Duellist specialization is awesome.

I got my ass turned into finely sliced ham at the Soldier's Peak as a rouge. Then again I was using "Thorn of the Dead Gods" which sucks and some Iron Longswordso I feel that my gear got me murdered. On another hand, anyone want an Elf Ham Sandwhich?

I played an Archer Rogue, so I'm not certain what skills you really want to go for as a melee rogue. Heard Momentum is a good one. But make certain you get as much dexterity as you can.
