I think if they didn't name this Dragon Age 2, Rather Dragon Age: Refugee for example they probably would have these problems.
It might be a good game, but gameplay wise it wont be the sequel to DAO

The whole "make your own character" thing is an incredibly weak mechanic. Yes, you get to choose what you look like, but you're also removing most of the ability of the developers to give your avatar personality. They just have to give you some lame "choices" that don't really personalize your mute character at all.

Frankly, I'm glad that they're putting only one character in. This will allow for a much better experience due to *actually having a character with personality*. After all, this is a series that prides itself on epic storytelling, and you can't tell a good story with weak characters.
I've always noticed that was a bit of a stain on Dragon Age, especially the fact that everyone would call you 'Grey Warden.'

Glad to see someone from Bioware commenting on alot of that backlash their changes are getting. I fully agree, I mean hell, wait until some actual gameplay comes out before you start bitching. Or even better, wait until you actually play the game, then your opinion is actually legitimate.

Also, Hawkes looks oddly like if my character from Origins and Morrigan had a baby...oh wait...here comes the King Arthur mythos methinks.

They'll be someone like him. Every game has to have a cocky twat of sorts.

Anyway more on topic I cant wait for this. Sounds like a real adventure and the way you follow the character through a set peroid of life is very intriguing to me. However would the game end at the end of the main storyline as Fallout because that would well and truly piss me off.

You've already announced that you are completely forgoing one of the most interesting and praised things about the first game.

Yeah, I think people have a right to question you and be pissed.
I wish I had something to add, but this man's gone and said it for me!

Wait and see was always my stance on the issue.

Besides, Custom created characters aren't that interesting alone. You can't connect to them because they have no personality.
They have yours, that's the entire point.

Eh, it could be good. This is why they'll never make a game as good as Baldur's Gate 2 again though.

I believe Mr. Gaider misses the point entirely. What made Dragon Age so great was the story and the ability to play that story from many perspectives. Now it seems that we have a sequel completely unrelated to the Warden protagonist, his companions or the Morrigan story line. Instead we are stuck playing a game on rails with a protagonist we cannot even name. I'm sorry, but it seems to me the originality of the Dragon Age series is already gone. All I can think is that the DA2 is a bridge between DA and DA3 so that after the end of Hawke's 10 years we are introduced to the 10 year offspring of Morrigan and the Warden. But I think that's wishful thinking.

While certainly not impossible, the combat is rather finicky and takes time to get used to, and more time to actually enjoy. In the early stage of the game it felt like a chore, but that's just me. I'm not interested in "hardcore" rpg combat so a more streamlined approach is something I'm looking forward to.

I'm a big fan of Mass Effect, so a voiced character is something I'm looking forward to.
Also, hopefully the console graphics will be better...

I'm enjoying the game, but at the same time I'm rather jealous that my friend has a sumptuous looking game on his pc, while I have something that doesn't quite gel well with my 360...
Kinda blurry and weird in many places.

Anyway- the game has only been announced, no need to get the knickers in such a twist!

I actually like this. While the Fully voiced thing does limit your vision of the character to some degree, I like having a fully voiced MC like Shepard (Or Hawke I guess in this case). The combat system in DA:O was rather annoying and I do prefer the ME role playing system over the one used in the original DA. Good Job Bioware, thank you for continuing in your history of amazing RPGs :D

I agree with Bioware guy, but I think Bioware could have possible handled the press statement a little more elegantly. It was basically "Hey guys, we're dumbing down combat, adding voices, making things like mass effect and getting rid of character customization. See ya!"
Then they expect people not to freak out?

I was seemingly the only person who was really mad about them taking the loot system out of ME2 and making the skill system retarded simple. Sure the story is good but I like those things in my RPG games.

It's Bioware doing it--whatever "it" is or turns out to be--so I have faith. DA:O was a tour-de-force of sheer liquid awesome, so while I will miss having to slog through multiple freaking origin stories just for the 10 point achievements (*cough*), I feel certain that whatever they're doing will be, at bare minimum, awesome. I've seen nothing /but/ awesome come from Bioware, so...yeah. Chill out and have faith. His Noodly Appendage has blessed Bioware...in fact, I feel certain that the leadership of Bioware are pirates at heart, thus clearly demonstrating themselves as His Chosen People.

I could froth on, but have been advised by my wife and legal team to stfu & move on.

I will not be surprised if they have DLC where you can play as other races for the protagonist with the way Bioware has been whoring out DLC recently...
