Yeah, thats what I'm saying.
Consider it as much a part of canon as the Transformers film.
But with ki blasts
and no robots
well
maybe robots
androids, yeah.

They'd never put Eighter in the dragon ball movie, and he was the only real Android in the whole dragon ball series (well, I guess Major Metallitron was)

I've said this before and I'll say it again. We have a right to piss and moan about a film being made out of something we've enjoyed for some time now. Look at how many hours of the series and movies there already are, there is no need to make a live action DragonBall film apart from to make money.

If you wanna get REAL technical about it then[Ace Ventura style inhale]; DragonBall was conceptually inspired on a Chinese story from the 1590s called Journey To The West - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West - as was the just as popular 70's show 'Monkey!\Monkey Magic!' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_(TV_series)

DragonBall obviously added their own ideas once they'd gotten so far with the manga, this eventually evolved into DragonBall Z (and obviously then DBGT). I'd say that because DBZ is the most popular of the three, most of the people that both were fans already and fans for the first time, check this film out because of their knowledge of DragonBall Z, not DragonBall.

Therefore, I wonder why they chose to take the DragonBall series and bastardise 'Lucas-Rape' it, seeing as the pig/Oolong is one of the main characters in DragonBALL and they're NOT going to put a pig in the film, NOT not going to shine the same light on DB with this high-school car driving thing and they're NOT going to introduce Goku as the child that he was and still is, and.....that's.....the.....point! [inhales frantically]

Not meaning to go off on one, but they're obviously only using the name and the snappy look (like ALL comic to live action movie conversions) so that more people come and watch it and spend money on them dressing up as DB characters and fulfilling some pointless (even though financial) agenda.

[spits] They should have just made something from scratch and stolen the bits that they wanted (images of balls with stars glowing, mention of a possible dragon that grants wishes, super-human fights with some odd demon(s) and some big ass hair. Then they could put in whatever they wanted.

People would have mocked it for being a shit version of DragonBall, but people will do that anyway.

[/14 hour shift anger inspired rant]

EDIT: And I'm glad someone bumped this thread, I noticed another one was created recently. :D

At first I had laughed at the idea. I mean, how were they planning to turn an anime, in which a fight spanned over several episodes, into a movie? But then for some reason, I started to believe that it might be an alright movie. Maybe it'll work out fine some how. But now I hear that Piccolo will be white....as a DBZ fan, I've given up all hope. As a movie fan who's done his research, I ask you, "What the fuck?"

I know man, I'm pretty gutted too. If they'd have stuck to format and released a 1 hour 30 minute film (pissing on the traditional 50 minute factor)and sent it to the cinema, I'd have been there faster than a fat guy in a pie shop!

I too saw a glimmer of hope for this project, once upon a time. When watching the 3rd Matrix film and seeing Neo and Smith fly-fighting, I thought "Oh, maybe the DragonBall Z film won't look so tacky if they can do THIS now." (I know it's not a DBZ film but at the time that's what I'd heard they were making). Sadly, the fly-fighting scenes became the least of my concerns.

:(

Piccolo is white.
Goku is a little prissy boy.
There will be no super saiyans.
I am by no means a DBZ fanboy, in fact I haven't even seen many of the episodes.
But by god, this is a travesty. What is the opinion of the escapist community on this movie?
1. Im not sure how man green actors there are
2. There were no super saiyans in the original Dragonball

Problem solved?
That, and they tried to make Piccolo look very old and decrepit, as a bold green would imply youth.

I see what you're saying about the implication of youth but I just typed 'green monster' into Google images and found this.

This looks better than a white Piccolo and with all the money they're throwing at the DB film, I'm sure they could have afforded something better for Marsters'.

Decrepit?

You do know that Picollo WAS OLD AND DECREPIT in DRAGONBALL, right?

I don't get it... are they trying to strangle what's left of the dragon ball series?

Strangle, wrangle, 'Lucas-rape', either way the cash-milking-cow is going to be sore in the morning.

To add to the fact that a live-action Piccolo can be done well. [http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z255/jeremymazumia/dbzmoviepiccolo_2.jpg]

Also, on the whole name thing that is going on,
am I the only one that caught the "Bibidi Babidi Buu" [http://www.wdccduckman.com/images/postcards/1996godmotherevent.jpg] thing? Also, if we say that Vegeta has no last name (that I know of, correct me if I'm wrong), the Trunks would have his mothers last name, making his full name "Trunks Briefs".

God this movie is gonna be bad. Forget buying a ticket, I'm just gonna sneak in. That way I not only get to see this train-wreck, I give the finger to the idiots that are making it.

I thought we'd established that already dude.
Really? I must have missed that post. Well, I'm gonna go with the fact that it's so friggin crazy it needed to be put up twice.

So there.

Further crappiness from the makers... we have the Oozaru form of Goku. It looks like a fish.

It looks to be OF prosthetics and makeup though instead of bad CGI. Though I'm confused, I thought people loved Giant Monkey's/Apes in movies, I know I do.

I think Speilberg started this thing off with his acquisition of the Ghost in the Shell films, which he has free reign to remake in any way he sees fit.

Does he just rent a film and gain automatic licenses over it because he's Steven Shit-Face Speilberg?
Oh GOD NO! Speilberg got his evil hooks into Ghost in the Shell? oh and this DB movie sounds like a travesty. >=P

Is this a good time to mention Leonardo DiCaprio is producing a live action two-part version of Akira, and setting it in Neo-Manhattan?

Are both of those confirmed?
