Sold! Mind you, I'm a Transformers fan who enjoyed our movie last year, so I guess I can withstand a lot of monkeying around with characters and plots. My only significant complaint is that Goku is American, which gives the whole thing a nasty Karate-Kid vibe. Still, Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi? Awesome.

Unfortunately, he isnt directing, hes producing... so less effect on the movie as a whole. I loved Kung Fu Hussle, and some of the fight scenes in that were done very well, almost Dragonball-like. I would hope the fight scenes are pretty funky although the energy attacks looked pretty pathetic in the trailer.

I see what you mean about Karate Kid vibe, and I don't like it :/

This is gonna be one movie I won't feel bad downloading. If its actually anygood I may visit the cinerma afterwards.

Loads of potential spolier-age
It's sort of off topic, so:

There's a theme with a lot of the original Japanese names though. The Saiyans for example: Goku's real name Kakarot means Carrot, Vegeta just means vegetable (Prince of the Vegetables), Radditz means radish. There are a few others.

I think the thing with naming some characters with a clothing theme comes from Bulma's side of the family seeing as her parents are Dr. Briefs and Mrs. Briefs.

And for the record, seeing as WE are talking about Trunks, it's my belief that Chrono from Chrono Trigger is actually based on Mari Trunks. The sword, the hair, the attitude and let's not forget the time-travelling!
Well in Japan, I remember someone telling me, Bulma is the name of a clothing company or something.

Bulma is actually a pun on the word "Bloomer" which is another word for underwear.

I will be one of the over 9000!! people going to see this movie

Sorry, very sorry. Terrible joke.
Your soul will pay for that.

I'll be one of the first people to shout that out during the movie, we should start a petition like with snakes on a plane and stop them raping the source material.
How about, NOT GOING TO SEE IT! Wouldn't that get your message across better?
I thought the trailer was fake to be honest.

And miss out on an opportunity to drop a line like that though?

Bulma's whole family is underwear, you obviously have Trunks, and her daughter in the original is called "Bra". Then you have Garlic Jr with Salt, Pepper, etc as his henchmen. King Piccolo had tamberine, drums, etc as his henchmen. Lots of silly little things in DB. If I remember correctly Chichi is acutally slang for breasts? Oh, and a more obvious one is Mr Satan (original name for Hercule) and his daughter Videl (deVil) and then Pan is an old devil god from... Norse? Viking mythology?

Piccolo is white.
Goku is a little prissy boy.
There will be no super saiyans.
I am by no means a DBZ fanboy, in fact I haven't even seen many of the episodes.
But by god, this is a travesty. What is the opinion of the escapist community on this movie?
1. Im not sure how man green actors there are
2. There were no super saiyans in the original Dragonball

Problem solved?
Piccolo's not white.
Goku also didn't go to school but that's been put in the film
Master Roshi isn't bald and doesn't wear neither sunglasses nor turtle shell
Piccolo in this film is in fact yellow, not white
the only thing that seems to be going as the anime intended is the dragonballs

It's not so much that Chrono is based on Trunks, but that Akira Toriyama can only draw six different people. He makes fun of himself for it at one point in Dr. Slump (one character disguises themself as another, and there's a marginal note saying that this only works because the he can only draw one female face. He has since branched out to two.. Either they look like Bulma (Jessica, Marle, Kluke, etc) or Android 18 (Zola, Ayla, etc))

This is also why he tends towards mad aliens and robots, so he doesn't run out of people so fast,

^^ There is that, but I think there's a little more to it. Like I said, the hair (okay so different colour), the sword, the character, the time travelling. Looking forward to the DS port of CT btw :D

it also explains why there are so many anthropomorphic animals in Dragon Ball.

The movie is based on the Original Dragonball not Dragonball Z so to all the people who keep reffering to it as though it has something to with DBZ your wrong, That being said I predict nothing but failure for this movie and I pray someone destroys it before its release and that it never sees the light of day!!

If you actually know anything about the original dragon ball, you'd be able to see already how far off the mark they are.

it would be funny if they made this movie just to make the Mortal Kombat movies good in retrospection.
