I AM sure about dual wielding guns.

As someone who "knows" guns, here are the facts: you could train with two guns for 10 years and still not be able to match up to someone who has learned to shoot one gun for a year. It just sucks to duel wield, and it always pisses me off to see duel wielding. Duel wielding is the bane of my existence. You know what game DIDN'T? What game let you use a single pistol to deadly effect?

"Game of the Year" Gears of War
Yeah, but if someone has only trained for a year in sniper rifle combat, they're gonna be fucked against a smg assault, as it's close range, assault, and you're not gonna be able to snipe everybody unless people sneaking you are shit at hiding.

You know what would be awesome? A shooter for the wii where you controlled a sword with the remote and a gun with the nunchuk.

EDIT: Actually, it would probably be better the other way around.

I was about to say why hasn't any one mentioned the Reapers when I scrolled down some more to find...

Resistance: Fall of Man had a pretty good separate aim system for the Reapers (dual-wielded alien SMGs), where the two weapons fired on the primary and secondary fire buttons.
The weapons individually locked onto targets, separate or the same one. It's easy to use, intuitive, and not considerably worse than single weapons, and yet FEELS like dual-wielding (unlike dual wielding in, oh, let's say... Halo. Which if you removed the graphics of the weapons would feel pretty much exactly like single wielding).

Halo didn't have dual wielding Halo 2 did. Also even then your analysis is somewhat flawed seeing as each weapon's fire was controlled by it's own trigger. You would have been better off comparing it to the dual wielding of pistols in most games (Counter Strike, FEAR, Crysis, etc.)
I think cobra ment Halo in general which include Halo 2 and 3 about how whether or not you use one gun or two you can only point at one opponent while Resistance let you shot at 1 or 2 enemies at the same time with the Reapers with little hinderance.

Instead of actully aiming. Why don't we do somethign predator style. Two Miniguns on either shoulder. A series of rocks implaneted in the wrist chest etc. Then all you do is walk in hold down the fire button and let the auto aim do the rest.

Aside from the fact that Gears of Wear is by no means the only game with a powerful pistol in it, we aren't talking about dual wielding in real life, we're talking about it video games, where a certain degree of abstraction is allowed if I remember correctly.

Two guns would rock if the game could pull it off right. Like two nines or even .45's at the same time.A DEagle though without two hands would be a good way to rip your hand off if not held right, so just have the game know when it is carring a Deagle. You could even have duel Deagles you would have to take off some of the accuracy and add a hell of alot of recoil and reloadin time.

Area 51 had a decent pistol. Sure, it took 2-3 shots to kill but it was accurate and fun to use.

And the reason pistols aren't powerful is that... I dunno. I know they lose a lot of accuracy and firepower over range, but videogames usually don't go for that sought of -FLASHPOINT- type realsim.

its quite simply really.

One 2 metre sword is cool

2 2 metre swords must be...

impossible, but so. damn. cool.
most people who dual weld have a shorter blade in the off-hand or use 2 short blades
Kali sticks are almost always dual wielded and their technique is based around the simultaneous use of both. One stick by itself doesn't do too much damage, but two are extremely versatile.

basicaly, wheither dual weilding is good or not boils down to the type of game, in a game liek Call of Duty 4 it just seems out of place, in a game like R:FoM where realism has long since ben trown out the window its perfectly fine and when your face is gettin eaten by an alien I don;t think its the time to be complaining about being able to dual weild

I generally like Dual Wielding when it is thematically appropriate, like in Halos 2/3 where getting Dual Needlers, charging into a room full of foes and letting loose felt SOOOO good. Same thing with the Time Splitters games, where dual SG's where the ultimate way to go.

Halo 3 with dual needlers?
What hacked version are you playing, I already though that 1 needler was over powered in Halo 3.

Oops, my bad, I must have erased that from my memory due to the crushind disapointment when I realised I couldn't.

What about handling reloading while dual wielding like the old man did in Boondock Saints? He carried like twelve pitols amd just threw them down as needed.

You don't need hands for reloading in a videogame. See Perfect Dark.

Also, you don't need two mice to independently aim dual guns, you just need target locking. See Devil May Cry 3.

What if you A. Felt like worrying about how to handle reloading? (or not.) B. Wanted to give the player total control over where each gun is aimed? Advent Rising used a targeting system that tried to let you target two seperate enemies and failed. If you wanted to target two distinct objects it would be hard as hell to do it with a targeting system that was not absolutely perfect. Lots of things are not needed for a videogame but you might want to try them jjust the same.
