DuckTales Remastered Will be "Significantly Easier"

I never considered this a hard game as far as NES is concerned... I guess pogo bouncing was kind of annoying at first, but back then, I guess we were all busier back then trying to memorize AI baddy movement patterns, timing jumps, and building algorithms to determine how well our progress was going vs. the number of extra men we had left in a stage...

Does easier also mean they're replacing the rope race at the end of the game after fighting Dracula with an elevator because you had to hold up the whole time while climbing the rope?

Oh well, who cares. I will buy this.

Played the original again recently and by pure coincidence. I have no problem with them revamping the controls to make them smoother and easier to use.

Ooh am intrigued if only to see what they do with the moon level and its infamous theme :)

Otherwise for difficulty and stuff... I got no opinion, i remember it being really obscene to beat the original gameboy version of ducktales and id probably struggle a lot more now that im older and not as conditioned to beat tough 8 bit platformers so can understand why they feel the need to make it easier for modern day peeps.
How could you say that, but not post this?

That... was fantastic. I do hope this will be good, I had a lot of fun with this game when I was a kid, so I'm excited. Here's hoping for a PC version, although I will still get it on Xbox if not, I suppose.

Now to make them re-release Claymates!

...got real excited there for a moment, but then I remembered that Capcom made the SNES version of Aladdin. not the infinitely superior Genesis version
When I saw they were going to remake the SNES Aladdin, I was jazzed. Have you played it? I've gone through both, but the SNES version is defintately the better one. Most people pass on the SNES version for lacking a sword, but really, the sword wasn't what made Aladdin Aladdin.

SNES Aladdin was pretty much the only Free-Running platformer of the era.

OTer: I can't wait to get this on the Wii U. Just better have off-screen play, cause my god Monster Hunter reminded me how bad of an idea no off-screen play is.

Eh. Fine with me. As long as the original stuff is there as an option, I don't see much reason to complain. Sure, not as many people will play the game as originally intended, but those people aren't you. If you wanna play the old-school version, that's there, too.

And thus, both the people who suck at gaming and the people who don't get to revel in the glory and wonder that is Ducktales. Everybody wins!

I'm more than a little shocked there's outcry at fixing the completely stupid and backwards ass control system of having to push two buttons in mid-air to pogo for no reason other than "Shit, we didn't think this one through properly".

I shouldn't be surprised, really. It's my fault for being surprised that the ridiculous elitist mentality is so pervasive as to extend to being protective over awkward control schemes.

I'm surprised people are taking such offence at something COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.

If you like your complex button-combo, then you can HAVE your complex button-combo. It's not going anywhere, there's simply the option to make it easier for new players. CHILL.

I'm more surprised people taking offence to the fact the games only going on 3 consoles and not the PC.

it really isn't that hard to go out and buy one of the consoles, especially since two of them have been on sale since the past 7-8 years.

This doesn't bother me as much as other 'old school' gamers.

I played the original, it's got great nostalgia factors, but I'm open to less annoying game play options.

I played this and other brutal old school games like Contra, Battletoads, and freaking Ghosts and Goblins which I am pretty sure could be used as a torture device. I once completed Super Contra on the highest difficulty in 2 player mode, keeping them both alive and active - BY MYSELF.

Something people complaining about games today need to also take into account that a good part of the difficulty of the older games of our youth was due to limited capabilities of the games and systems, and input devices. Not that the difficulty was 100% intentional. Some stuff today (excessive waypointing for example) goes a bit far but the more people that are capable of playing a game the more people they can sell it to. So it's not going away.

I'm not going to buy a console just because they are cheap, i simply prefer to do my gaming on my PC. I'd rather have one cover-all machine that does all my gaming, word processing, internet, work ECT than have several machine cluttering up my living room. I also like being able to alt-tab at any time I want and check e-mails or chat with someone or whatever.

Being a PC gamer is not because I "can't afford a console" (gaming PCs are usually quite a bit more expensive than consoles actually), but because I like gaming on my PC. I like the choice the PC offers. I do have a wired xbox 360 controller so I can play games with a controller as well.

This being said, apparently steam achievements for the game have been discovered, which hints that it will be coming to steam eventually.

Again - the list of leaked Steam achievements implies it WILL be on PCs, just not at launch.

I can sympathise with people who don't have consoles, but not by much. If you're into games, you really should have at least ONE console - they're not all that expensive, especially if you buy a used one - and there's so many console exclusive games out there...

But like I say, I do get why some people can't get them. Kind of.

"We had to make [Ducktales Remastered] significantly easier and more accessible."
......

Ok, making it a bit easier is understandable, I agree with that... but significantly? Whats even the point then. I am glad they are at least offering the original experience in a difficulty, but this most certainly is a sign of the times. If you take away all the challenge there isn't any reward or much fun to be had. At least make them work for the goal a little bit, that's what makes a game fun. I think we've forgotten that along the way somewhere beaten making things accessible and cinematic. Gaming is becoming more and more like the sterilized, padded, playschool playgrounds we now have. I am so happy I grew up with the genuine, fun, metal ones that rose high off the ground and had swings. Scraping your knee and banging your elbow was half the experience, that's what made it fun. *HintMetaphorHint*

And no, I am not "mad", I am disappointed. Disappointed so many average people will pick this game up, fly through it in a few hours and be like "hu, that was pretty boring" not realizing they weren't actually given anything close to the original experience, and likely not even try the other difficulties given that the experience has already proved fruitless. That wouldn't end well for all the other Capcom games they are talking about remastering, as I doubt they would get made if this one gets too much criticism.

And then sometime in the future we'll come across a game that won't be coming to PC let alone steam and then some will have to face that reality.

For the time being I suppose the waiting game is the only game to play for those that don't have any of those 3 consoles.
