I love most games. The only game-types I dislike are RTS, sports and, tower-defense. I love me some RPG's (west and J), shooters (prefer 1st, also love 3rd), stealthy games, etc. I'm also getting back into old-school beat-em-ups. Love me some of those...Konami was on fire back in the 90's!

my favourite is j-RPGs and only W-RPG i like is Bioware stuff and Elder Scrolls, i dislike all others, hate FPS because they don't worth my money for what they give in single player, length wise, 80$ for 5-8 hours of gameplay? no thank you i got used to get 30-100 hours out of my money. so yeah i place myself in "j-RPG fan that dislike shooters and very picky with W-RPG".

I generally play games from most genre's, so there's no particular genre i like or dislike, since each is so different.

That said, i would say RTS's are my least played genre. FPS's are my most played.

I hate to be like everyone else on this site, but I'm going to have to bring up something Yahtzee said. At one point he said "People who play MMOs and people who play first person shooters don't overlap much" But I personally enjoy both genres, Infact the only genre I really don't like are those sport simulator things.. So at least for me saying somebody likes this so they can't like this is rather stupid but hey, Maybe the majority of people is different

Favorite: First-person RPGs (ElderScrolls and Fallout 3) and FPSs

Least Favorite: Sports games, 3rd Person Shooters (Gears etc), (Any game where the game is more focused on presenting story and cutscenes than with gameplay)

I like all sorts of games. I probably lean towards the action side of things, like inFamous or Uncharted, but I think the only genre I never enjoy is point and click adventure games, like the ones Telltale make.

My favorite is whatever Zelda is. Action-adventure I guess. I also love platformers, RPGs (both Japanese and Western), sandbox, stealth, horror, rail shooters, turn based strategy, and Metroidvania games.

In the "meh, they're cool" column is fighting, shooters, and RTS's.

In the "I don't like them, but I'll play them if someone challenges me" column are Madden and Mario Kart. That is all.

In the hatred column are sports, simulators, racing, and shovelware.

In the main, I play non-RT strategy games, shooters, WRPG's & sandbox AA's in more or less equal measure, none of them really being my favourite, I like them all pretty much equally.

I play JRPG's least (haven't really 'taken the plunge' as it were to have an opinion of them), followed by fighters, racers, god-games, simulators and sports. *shrug*

Favourite: FPS/TPS OR Fighting/Hack and Slash.

Least favourite: Simulation, Turn Based Strategy.

I'm partial to Action-RPGs as well, in the style of Diablo and Mass Effect 2.

I prefer retro style FPSes (nostalgia has nothing to do with this, I just got into them a few years ago). This includes Serious Sam, Painkiller, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, etc.
However, I have a moderate disdain for RTS and JRPG games. Not that I hate them, I just would hate playing them.

My all-time favorite games consist of Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Burnout, the Fallout series, Final Fantasy, Legend of the Dragoon, Street Fighter, Call of Duty, Command & Conquer, Ratchet & Clank, Advanced Wars, and old school platformers. I'd say I don't like sports games, but I just...do. For me, if it's a good game, it's a good game. And it all depends on what sort of mood I'm in day by day.

Hell, I even play my MMORPGS. By that I mean RuneScape. Don't judge me.

My top five favorite games -

1. Kingdom of Paradise
2. Monster Hunter Unite
3. Halo Reach
4. Grid
5. Braid

Each one of these games is of a different genre. Now how does that work?
My top ten

Dirt
Starflight II
Descent
Homeworld 2
Company of Heroes
Might and Magic 2
Oblivion
Shadow of the Colossus
Freespace
Diablo II

I don't think it's that uncommon to like a lot of different genres. I bet most people have a few genres they don't like though. I don't see any sports games in either of our lists :)

I like all genres, it depends if the game itself is any good.

I never did get why reviewers say that, I only understand if they say things like "If you're an 'X' fan, then 'Y' is pretty much a clone of that." Or if they're referring to, say, Spiderman and state "If you're into Spiderman and don't mind all the bugs (mind the pun), then this is probably something you'll enjoy." then, it's fine, I guess. It's when they compare genres rather than games is when it's not.

Favourites would be action-RPG (Deus Ex, Stalker), adventure (Longest Journey, Monkey Island) and 4X strategy (Europa Universalis, Space Empires, Civilization).

I enjoy a blast of Counter-Strike, Quake or Rainbow 6 every so often. I love a proper tactical shooter like SWAT 4. Stealth is good, like Thief or Hitman. Also racing games. There are some great RTS games: C&C Red Alert, Total Annihilation, Empire Earth.

Flight sims and space sims are great (Comanche, Elite).

I can really get sucked in to WRPGs. I can see the appeal of some JRPGs (Persona, FFXII).

Something else I can really get sucked in to are construction games like Transport Tycoon.

The only thing I'm really not interested in is sports games. But there are a few I've enjoyed: some NFL game I don't remember what it was called, and Wii Tennis.

Basically, anything that's either super fun (for my twisted definition of fun) or has a good story, and doesn't get on my tits.

My favorite is WRPGs, and I hate JRPGs. I think that is one area where the stereotype is generally true.

I'm also a huge fan of FPS, sandbox and strategy games. Dislike racing, sports and MMO's the most.
