Duke Nukem Fail impending?

What the fuck did you expect? Have you taken a look at the previous games? I am so tired of the art games crowd and the story people complaining about these games. How about you complain about the games that were supposed to have good stories that failed, rather than these mindless fun games where minimal emphasis is placed upon the story to begin with? Why do I have to constantly see someone whining about story on threads about duke nukem or SR3 or serious sam? THESE GAMES ARE MEANT TO BE JOKES! THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT DEFINES THEM! This is why the games as art people have this stereotype. It's almost like no one cares about mindless happy fun anymore. You want to get rid of the stereotype, stop with this whining over story in games that don't put a heavy emphasis on story to begin with.

Disclaimer: I know the OP didn't say all of that stuff or complain about some of that stuff, but I really, really needed to get that off of my chest.

I watched the trailers read alot of stuff about the game, BUT i dont think its very good i don't think it will be very good or fun. i also don't like Duke as a character either, too me he is just a sexist wanker and the only thing i think will be good is his one liners. Plus Aliens look pretty cool too.

I know this is harsh and i haven't played it so i can't say its shit but this is just my thoughts on the subject.

But what are your thoughts on the NEW duke Nukem coming out? will it be a winner? or a Fail?

Matter of opinion.

To me it looked great, and I very much enjoy the character and sense of humor. It's a game that knows to make fun of itself, or at least I hope it does.

Overly long development times typically mean a mess. But this seems like just such a softball. How do you mess this up? It's an FPS with a character you either like or don't. Give us the same element as 3D with a high def gloss, competently programmed and those that loved 3D should love this.

But if it is a hacked glitch fest, there's no saving it, not even if you love Duke (who is supposed to embody the unleashed hormone driven frat boy inside all heterosexual men crossed with Bruce Campbell.)

I mean best case scenario its a really fun game with a really funny charahcter that doesnt take itself too seriously (thats from what I understand about duke nukem anyway)

..That is the entire point of Duke Nukem. An extreme parody of hypermasculinity and big screen male action stars whom kill aliens and get the girl in video game format. It's never been anything more than that, and anyone whom actually takes the game concept of Duke Nukem seriously either doesn't get it, willfully doesn't get it, or obviously never matured past age 6. Gearbox is looking for a big buck out of it's release, sure, but they definitely aren't expecting it to "revolutionize" the industry at all, either.

So no, it is likely not going to fail, and you are not the target audience either, as evident by your posting of this thread.

Over the years, Duke has become somewhat of a meme to the general audience that may have actually payed attention. Standards, expectations, and interest are now completely different. Duke has aged, he isn't the same guy in the eyes of everyone when he first gained popularity in Duke Nukem 3D. The days of Doom have come and gone.

With this being kept in mind, it seems as if the release of this game is more or so like a worn out joke. I may buy it, but I don't think that it will do well with sells. The targeted audience how days is more leaned towards online multiplayer socialization and war FPS games.

It seems every thread about Duke is the same thing so I am gonna respond with the same answer: Its meant to be stupid, a joke of everything, bloody, over the top fun. I don't want to play games that turn into dramatic crap all the damn time. I want to jump in, feel like a God, murder the fuck out of everything, and still be able to get laid at the end of the day. Games like these are meant to be enjoyed. There is nothing to think about. Its just shoot and kill and watch the chaos unfold, simple isn't it?

Sometimes a break from the serious stuff is nice. Congrats to everyone on growing up from some of the best and most fun run and gun games ever.

I don't care if it's the "Friday" of games, I'm buying it on principle. It's freakin' Duke Nukem Forever, the game that seemed cursed and came back from the dead.

Agreed. At this point whether the game is good or bad or just indifferent is almost entirely besides the point. It's the game we thought we'd never ever see, and it'll sell a ton just on that alone.

Day one purchase for me.

But from the Hype surrounding it over the past few years...

Better that then what other stuff is out there TRYING to be serious when duke nukems trying be a fun game unlike the realistic crap being pooped out of the giant ass known as gaming.

Im not sure though 14 years in development must mean its decent atleast.
I mean if everyone thinks call of dutys good and they get pooped out per year with only a few more maps and guns along with some graphics nummed down its got to be good.
