How can anyone think about this for long enough to actually program it and still decide it's a good idea?

Ya ya you do its just no one wants to make viruses for macs because more people have pc's just wait if this happens then you will have loads of viruses
Macs don't pick up viruses as frequently as PCs do because, unlike Windows, Mac applications all run independently of each other and that makes it difficult for a virus to make the global changes needed in order to be infective. But if you run a root key application like Java on your Mac, it will defeat the independence of the applications and can make picking up a virus very easy.

I lol'd.

Yes you do, and even if you currently don't, such a program like this will be very helpful for Mac-based virus writers.

Will there be any sort of accountability for the people who uploaded the files? If not, they should start doubling their legal retainer right now.

Its like an undercover Porn warehouse! All porn, from everywhere, coalesced into one place. I cannot fathom how anybody thought this would be a good idea.

Other than being one of the worst ideas ever, this seems like it would be very annoying considering you still need to upload every file, and the kinds of files will typically be copyrighted work or worthless junk.

Looks like silly hipster shit.

That is quite frankly one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard. When I delete something, I want it gone. If I wanted to share it with people, I'd do that without deleting it.

Seriously man, just google "mac viruses" or something similar. You absolutely do have viruses on Macs.

Even if you *didn't* have viruses on Macs (even though you do) - you ARE aware of the current Mac Malware problem, right?

inb4 mass amounts of academic dishonesty.
inb4 mass spreading of viruses and malware.
inb4 mass amounts of general computer abuse.
inb4 this thing gets shut down faster than Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs.

Considering most files deleted will contain stuff not shareable, I don't see this flying very far.
Dumpster diving in real life has enough of its own hazards to be stupid in its own right. I have my doubts nobody but malware crafters will try porting this to pc.

FYI Viruses aren't random occurring strings of code that just happen. They're built and programmed by people.

Macs do and can get viruses but there are less of them out there because it is just easier to write viruses for windows because of how simply windows accepts new software. Macs don't like new software. Does that mean you cannot install third party software? no, but it is just a little bit more difficult; not impossible.

Writing a virus for mac or linux isn't impossible, just more difficult.

That said, the probability of getting a virus on a mac are incredibly low in comparison to a windows system. Again, not impossible.

And this digital dumpster thing has got to be the worst idea out there. No one throws stuff in the garbage hoping that someone in the world picks it up. When we put stuff in the trash and the trash people take it away, we just assume it has vanished into a black hole (we know it doesn't but that's what we'd like).

Why would we want a virtual dumpster where we KNOW someone will pick up our trash?

WHO thought this was a good idea. I need to punch somebody in the face that was stupid.

Have you ever looked at a homeless person digging through trash and though, "I wish I could dig through unwanted filth but I'm not poor enough because I can afford a mac." :(

Well we here at dumpsterdrive.com have the solution for you! We give you, The Dumpster Drive!
*yay*

With Dumpster Drive you can go though people unwanted garbage without the risk of accidental contact with used needles or human waste all at the safety of your home! But don't take our word for it, but listen to these satisfied users:

"Before Dumpster Drive I would have to go out in public and through people's garbage bins to find unwanted photos, but now I have access to every unwanted photo ever put on the internet."

"Before I was always worried that someone would be able to get my old tax return information even after putting it through a paper shredder, but now I know somebody has my tax return information because I accidentally put the PDF in the Dumpster Drive and not the Trash Bin."

"I was getting random files off of Dumpster Drive and now someone has backdoor access to my computer and actually locked me out of my own system. They changed my password..."

all three "Thanks Dumpster Drive!"

You may want to take off the blinders and look around at the real world...

And for this product, all I can say is WTF? As if there weren't enough privacy concerns these days for people who are careful with their information, now we have a tool that lets us spare identity thieves the effort of stealing our stuff. Really??
