And they say Mac's can't play any games!

Finally a Mac only game! Now all those people with Macs get to brag about how they got something first. Even if it was just a dumpster diving simulator.

I believe this already exists.

It's called the internet and a bunch of idjits use it. If I wanted anything from it (say you could do 1 'dump' per HDD) then I'd just sandbox it and see the worms crawling out.

As a computer scientist, I have to say that this may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The point of deleting files is to free space on your hard-drive by removing old data. Creating a copy of old data and sending it somewhere just displaces that space that you want to free onto someone's server. On top of that, even if you think something good might be int he trash (besides the hundreds lose or partial files that get deleted) letting only one person access them defeats the purpose of sharing it. Digital media is special because it can exists in multiple places at once putting a restricting on it creates artificial scarcity... of trash. People delete information because it is no longer useful why would someone else need that.

The only good thing that comes out of this is "This brings new meaning to the term 'trash collection'". If you get that lame computer science joke then I apologize.

This could be a cool feature.
But because of humanity, it will be filled with viruses, porn, disturbing stuff, even more disturbing stuff, stuff that scarr you for life etc.

If not for humanity, it would be a cool, but useless and wasted feature.

Aside from how ridiculous an idea this is... (pretty much covered to death, I think.)

Is this system regulated in any way? I mean, what, it could be flooded with child porn in an instant. Are the computers logged by what files they add into this? And if they are, could that then pose a security risk?

While you consider that, here's another one.

What kind of limit would there be on acquiring files? Could you potentially have one man with terabytes of storage hoovering up countless files, denying everyone else?

tl;dr - it's stupid.

This is what really gets me. Obviously its just a gimmick with no real purpose, but the limiting of one of each file makes it sound a lot less interesting. I'm sure you could kill some time looking through other peoples deleted files, just seeing whats there and maybe even snatching some things you want to check out.

But having the files disappear when someone else wants the file means all the potentially interesting trash will become harder to find and get a hold of. So you will just be sifting through the trashiest of the trash that isn't even a novelty to download.

Imagine if they did that sort of thing with that site stumbleupon, every time someone checks something out its removed from the possible things people can have come up. And a whole bunch of the videos are broken and won't play.

Would anybody feel comfortable jacking it to another man's porn? :p
If you're on a porn site, I can guarantee that its "another mans porn". How would it be different in that dumpster drive :p

Also, I think its a cool idea. But forget the fact that its just a cool idea, bring it to the escapist, everyone will laugh at it and go "What you coded was USELESS! This has no practical applications at all! What's the point?".

Erm, cos its a cool idea?
