I'm playing on the PC so the Kinect crap doesn't matter to me anyway, but I like what I see!

By the way, is it just me or does Mordin's voice sound different?

You know, I can see a lot of good coming from combining kinect with biotics. I can see using pull by making a closed fist and moving it in the direction you want the target to drift, in three dimensions. Maybe throw could be the same but with an open hand or something. A good way to overcome the 2D/3D barrier for telekinetic abilities in video games.

I'm reluctant to move while playing video games. But that voice commands stuff really gets on my nerves. I feel dumb talking to myself alone at night in my room.

Can't you do that with any peripheral? I mean like a headset? Why does voice-commanding need a Kinect?

My entire reaction to the ME3 demo:

Omni-Tool blade.
...

PFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seriously, that just made me laugh my ass off. I mean, really? The Omni-Tool is now a blade? Really? How the hell does that work?
Omni-tool literally means every tool. Last I checked, a knife was a tool.

I mean, it makes sense. If they can harden light, they can give it an edge.

As for this Kinect business, I don't like the idea of speaking to make my Shepard speak. It just highlights the fact that the person speaking on the screen is separate from me, which is kind of detrimental to the whole point of having an avatar.

This looks pretty stupid. I'm having a difficult time finding a point...
I guess "Cuz it'd be kewl" is probably the point.

Oh Jesus, I hope they don't try to crowbar PS Move controls in for no reason... *sigh*

"Format C return yes!"

(note this low content post is reference to a famous computer industry anecdote and thus relevant to both the site and to the current thread)

As long as I can do this without kinect.

Oh wait i'll be playing on PC anywya hahaha

No matter how hard they keep trying to shoehorn Kinect into existing franchises, I still have no intention of buying it. I am underwhelmed.

While voice commanding to choose a dialogue option seems downright stupid, I'd love to be able to issue commands to my squad mates. Sure, on a PC (which is how I'll play the game) it's slower than pressing a button, but the immersion sounds awesome. You know, assuming the game can recognize voice commands in a non-american accent. And assuming the functionality will exist on a PC.
But just imagine being able to set code-words for actions and squad members. If I can just shout "Blue, Single" to make Liara cast singularity where my cross-hairs are pointing, I'll be a happy man.

P.S. to anyone who feels stupid about talking to a computer: really? Am I the only one that's excited about the future and computers learning to recognize language and speech? Am I the only one who can't wait for the day when I can have a real conversation with a machine?

hey I'm down with voice control if it works! been interested since I saw it done in End War (which I also kinda need to try out)

still not sure if I really feel like reading every line in dialogue tho...think I could pass on that (assuming I have Kinect by then, big maybe)

Console games have been using voice commands since 2003's Rainbow Six 3, it's nothing new. Did everyone forget about Tom Clancy's Endwar that came out last year and could played solely with voice commands?

And reason we don't "converse" with our computers has more to do with a lack of sentient AI capable of responding and not a lack of voice recognition software.

Sure, this looks kind of cool but only in the combat context. I don't feel more immersed in the game just because I can read the 4 word option on the dialogue wheel. It by no means makes me want to get the Kinect. I would like the more fluid combat but I can live with quick pauses if it means not having to dig in to my wallet for that one functionality.
I get the feeling that virtually nobody in charge actually thought this would convince anyone to buy the Kinect. It's more likely an attempt to ease the minds of people who already bought the thing as a sign that Microsoft was serious about supporting it, if only by adding functions to other games for now until the dedicated triple A games are ready. As it stands right now, no one has to actually buy a Kinect to play Mass Effect 3, it only adds features that can be incorporated easily into the game without drastic changes to the final product.

As for the Kinect being used instead of a headset, it might be a quality issue, as one would presume that it has more sophisticated hardware and software than the standard headset.

Anyway, I'm not complaining because the circumstances for my upgrading to a Kinect bundle were related to hardware issues with my original. Got it in 2006 and the disk drive malfunctioned beyond manageable levels sometime in October or November 2010, damn good machine never bricked on me.

The motion and voice stuff they showed for Future Soldier was pretty interesting. I enjoyed the gunsmith mode and while the motion control with the Kinect looked a bit odd, it didn't seem too bad.

As far as Mass Effect goes, it looks like the stuff they're doing for the 360 won't be enough to ruin the game on the other platforms.

Unless it's going to respond to commonly used phrases like, "Holy shit!" "What the fuck are you doing?!" "Or just sit there, that's fine too." "I'm fucking dying here, do something!" and "FUCK THIS GAME!!" then I won't have much use for it. I'll just stick with the controller, which won't record my embarrassing outbursts.
That's what I was thinking. I mean, considering how often I say stuff like "Goddammit, Garrus, get into cover and QUIT DYING!", I can't really see how voice controls are going to be anything but a hindrance.

Oh, well, it's not like they're going to be mandatory. All told, this is my most anticipated game of the... ever. I have never been this excited about a game.
