Mass Effect and Fallout are shooters with RPG elements? Oh you...

I like FPS and TPS, and there were a few other games I saw that I approve of.

E3 was only a bit ''Meh!'', for me for the fact that (even though we weren't expecting it) there was absolutely nothing from BioWare about DA2 and ME3.
And certainly this...I guess their gonna just release more DLC for the rest of the year before we see any hope of proper sequels. Would settle for another expansion for DA, though.
Well we do know they are bridging the story gap between 2 and 3 with DLC a bit nearer the time :) So that is something to look forward to maybe as early as the end of the year or beginning of next year. And yes, more DA would be great!

Fallout: New Vegas and Mass Effect 2 are RPGs, by the way. They may have shooting elements, but if you think that they're just your standard run'n'gun shooter campaign, you have zero credibility as a gamer.

Also, I do feel that we're getting far too many shooters that lack originality. (Although your post was erroneous in the claim that all of those games were FPS) Many were Third-person, and the 2 I mentioned above are Shooter/RPGs, and can't be thrown in with the likes of Call Of Duty as "mindless shooters".

Bulletstorm and Medal of Honor were the only FPS games (if you count New Vegas as a RPG, LIKE YOU SHOULD) that interested me.

FPS games are popular because they're simple. Any moron can point and click. Larger target audience equals larger sales. Largers sales equals more money. Money is God.

Go there, kill that, drive there, kill final boss...woohoo you saved whatever that needed saving.
That's every game ever, save puzzle games like Tetris.
Mario? Run there, jump there, save the princess, woohoo.
Modern Warfare? Run there, duck there, jump there, shoot there, aim there, saves the world, woohoo.
Dragon Age? Run there, attack that, talk to them, save the world, woohoo.
Command and Conquer? Build that, train that, move there, kill those, save the world, woohoo.

Every game can be broken down to these basic terms.
If you're going to do it to FPS games you don't like, be prepared to do the same to games you love and see how they fare.

It isn't that these games are all basically, fundamentally similar, it's how they pull it off. The perspective is just that: The perspective. Zeno Clash, for example, is first person, but it is nothing like, say, Crysis. And Crysis, while using military-style guns and such, is nothing like Modern Warfare. The two are extremely different, save perspective.

Besides: There were many 'shooter' games announced, sure, but there were plenty that weren't shooters. Fable 3 was discussed, Gran Turismo 5 was given a release date, the new Twisted Metal, practically the entirety of the Nintendo conference, Metal Gear: Rising, Civilization 5 (Which looks awesome), and more! You just have to know where to look!

FPS games are here to stay. That has to be said.
But other genres aren't dying out or going away. Every few years the popular genres change. I remember when RTS games were HUGE, and then it was RPGs for a while, and now we're at shooters. Times and popular genres change. I say just enjoy the ride.

That's true, but I'm really not sure if they should even be doing that... I mean they way it sounds, they are going to be putting serious story bits into that DLC, which means anyone who doesn't buy it will be left out. Then again, I'm a BioWare fanboy and have bought/will continue to buy any DLC they release, but I still disagree with them doing that.

I respect that it's hard to understand since you haven't been to an E3 but here's the deal man. There are a BILLION (roughly) games on display at E3 but websites and magazines tend to only focus on the ones that will likely be the most popular so as to maximize their readers.

I'm 100% sure there were some really cool new things on display there, they just won't get the coverage those games will.
And that's a damn shame...cuz because of it..they'll prolly sell badly...and that's a killer in these times.

Yeah...if only people were more independant...seeking out the new and innovative stuff and spreading the word...instead of mostly looking where everybody else is looking...the big titles...the big names. In that sense, the gaming industry resembles Hollywood.

There were plenty of non-FPS titles at E3 as well, more than enough to compete with your list there. Stop being so selective.

I totally agree and have said the same sort of thing over on their SN site. I will buy it, but I feel badly for people who can't/won't or choose not to download content (I am also a BioWare fanboy, well fanwoman, lol)

I should have emphasized the KILL part. Overcoming opposition by putting lead in their systems causing them to croak. You're right that all games are about overcoming obstacles/ opposition though...just don't think that it's always done by killing. Ever played The Longest Journey?

Well the last remark has given me some hope. Thanks.

I really don't get why anyone makes a big deal about the new Goldeneye game. Yes, the original is awesome, but guess what people, they've been making mediocre Bond games on a regular basis ever since, you think this one is going to be 'epic' just because it shares it's name with one that was?

Time for a reality check I think. Odds are, if you haven't been impressed by any of the last dozen bond shooters that have come out, this one isn't going to be any difference.

That said, I loved Nightfire, and Eurocom is still developing, so that works for me. Although Daniel Craig can gtfo.

You know Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3? For all their talk of being RPGs...they're more FPS with RPG elements. And that's what bothers me as well...this "converting" influence FPS has over other genres. Pressing a button to stick to chest-high walls ad infinitum sound acceptable to you?
True. Too many action RPGs today. Not every game needs to have guns!!

I honestly don't see this when you factor in Atlus's announcement, the DS Third Party Support List, and Nintendo going back to side scrolling with Kirby, and Donkey Kong...

I know there was more, I just don't remember them.

Also to all the people going FPS's are the greatest thing ever...

Opinion != Fact

As long as there is people that like a certain genre games will be created for it, there is no guarantee they will be good.

E3 2010:

Killzone 3
Gears of War 3 third person
Crysis 2
Vanquish third person
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier partially third person
Rage
Bodycount
Brink
Bulletstorm
Medal of Honor
Fallout: New Vegas [/b]Can be played in third person as well as first person[/b]
Mass Effect 2 is also third person

*sigh*....

Guess this is what we want, right? We want to OD on FPS apparently...well..let's all fire away then shall we...until our brains rot and ooze out of our ears and nose.
Just wanted to point out a few flaws in your text. And what's so bad about the first person perspective anyway? Do you really hate it, or do you just want to follow the wagon of hating fps because it's cool?
I think its more the "Run & Gun" scenario that he really hates. and i understand his views too. I love shooting the everloving shit outta stuff, but yeah, its definitely ...growing maybe a little TOO much
