Congratulations EA, I could have told you 3D was a waste of money back when Avatar came out. Oh wait, I pretty much told everyone, and I wasn't alone. Way to listen EA, way to listen.

I hate 3D it adds absolutely nothing to the experience, because we're trained to see depth in normal 2d tv anyway. Wow, it makes it easier, woopedydo. And the glasses often take away by giving headaches, or just being annoying. hell, When I watch 3D movies(my theater only offers 3D movies in 3D, and I have to drive minimum 20 minutes one way to another, and my truck has crap gas mileage) I end up watching my left eye unless I cup my hands around my face. Even the tiny amount of light from the back of the theater makes the fucking lens reflective. and I end up with a headache about half the time.

Waste of Money. For all parties involved.

So far the only great thing I've heard of coming from 3D is Sony's split screen multiplayer that doesn't cut the screen in two, each person wearing the glasses will see a different image. I don't know how well it works but it sounds awesome.

All other forms of 3D are unnecessary, expensive and add little to gaming at all, I can see why companies wouldn't want to focus on it.

And so the Stereoscoping Fad dies yet again; only to inevitably resurrect in another 20 years like it's fucking Dracula.

When 2031 rolls around, I'll have to find my whip.

3D is as gimmicky as it ever was and sadly still no real improvement over what was around 50 years ago.....

Thank you, EA. Welcome back. Quite a few gamers (including me) predicted this. Not surprised that the 3DS failed to meet expectations either.

Good, I can't see "3D" anyway.

Having only 1 working eyeball will do that.

You win the thread good sir, I am laughing very hard right now.

OT:

"We're not here trying to drive the market, we're here to react to what consumers are looking for,"
Ladies, gentlemen, and Zoidberg. EA finally admits it, they are here to put out as much copypasta bullshit as humanly possible.

People of the jury, the prosecution rests.

If you have a decent machine and a pair of those Red/Cyan glasses Iz3D drivers got you covered for free 3D(Shame its like being colorblind only more annoying)

As for 3D in games, its useless, but also has a appeal of "HOLY *$!@%$,DEPTH" and that feeling that HUD is just tape. And How many times people say its a fad, companies keep trying to sell it to us for the casual market and how they are showing off what they can do.

Its like they are selling tech-demos for a full price.

Finally, it's about time someone realized the uselessness of 3D, at least from a business standpoint. I can only hope Nintendo will have only thrown it's hat in the ring with the 3DS and nothing else. Sony...well they'll probably have to learn the hard way after investing so much into 3D TV's and games.

I have no idea why 3D is such a polarising(ha...)thing here.

I grant that you have all been to the cinema, but how many of you actually have 3DTV's in your homes? Home 3D is sharper, more detailed, and less nauseating(actually neither bother me anymore)than it's cinema-counterpart.

Motorstorm apocalypse was enough to convince me that gaming can absolutely be enhanced by 3D. I'm hearing great things about Uncharted 3's implimentation, and it's only going to improve with new console hardware.

I don't need anyone to jump on my bandwagon, I don't care. But...like so often with this forum, I feel like I have to post to add just a little bit of balance to the discourse, the baseless know-it-all-ism that is prevailing is astonishing.

The message from EA isn't that the tech sucks, it's that the adoption rate is low...that's all. Consumer popularity doesn't depict what is best either, VHS wasn't better than Beta-max, Starbucks isn't better than the independant places it has replaced, and Tesco sure as hell isn't selling better shit than the bakeries and fruit-&-veg shops that it killed off. In all of those examples cost/convenience was the determining factor, not quality...except for VHS, which won because of...porn?

Ah, thankyouthankyouthankyou, John! Someone FINALLY understands that consumers couldn't give a rat's behind about 3d! Hopefully the other big developers follow suit and stop trying to shove it down our throats!

Well, I am unable to see 3D. So I think that explains it.

The problem with a company being as big as EA is they easily become disconnected from reality. I have seen a single 3D movie in my life and felt that it was partially ruined by it (the new Tron movie, but it just wasn't a good movie, all that epic music for the antithesis of epic). I have no interest in 3D gaming. I checked out the 3DS then quickly came to the conclusion that if I had it, I would be playing it with the 3D off all the time. I haven't spoken to a single person who likes 3D at any point in their life. Sony with their 3D televisions and gaming in 3D is just a bad idea. Ideas like this only develop in mega corporate environments where the people never actually use the things they make. They also are incredibly bad at anticipating public desires and beneficial public trends. I'll never forget how Sony said that 3D is great, but not Nintendo's 3D, it made me literally laugh out loud. Only, Nintendo was smart enough to make it able to be turned off.

I'm glad to see at least one company with their head out of their ass. Good to hear you won't be failing to shove 3D down our throats like certain others. We'll start using it when the technology becomes cheap and good, not now just cuz you want us to!

hmm, so EA realizes it, and Nintendo might be getting the message to with the lackluster enthusiasm for the 3DS. Maybe in the near future we won't have any more of this 3D crap?

"EA's boss thinks that a lot of people actually prefer playing games in 2D anyway."

Weren't we saying this before and during the up-rise of this latest 3D fad?

Its too expensive, doesn't add anything of value, it muddies image quality. The filters some console games have put over them to (often ineffectively) remove jaggies is bad enough.
its been tried befor and was terrible its expensive adds little to nothing its a battery hog doesnt work for everyone and is actually painfull to everyone after awhile.

its a gimicky fad and anyone with any sense saw this coming.

for me 3D movie = stuff moving to or from the screen every other scene if not more often for no good reason.
