No, im not butt hurt. I love Battlefield and I love CoD, it just seems to me that EA have continuasly been attacking Activision and CoD, first with the whole Battlefield will bring CoD down, and second with this. If Activision fires back at this then I will be annoyed at them attacking Battlefield. Also, as someone above stated, Sega's whole advertising campaign was attacking Nintendo and look where they ended up. Still, what did CoD do to deserver being attacked by another company just because its popular.
Yeah, that's a negative example. But what about the "I'm a Mac" advertisements that have been hugely successful, and basically bash PCs? It's done all the time in marketing. And especially in a market where there is rampant fanboy-ism, it can be very successful. Like others have said, if you don't like something then let your wallet do the talking. If these ad campaigns don't generate more sales, then they probably won't use them again.

God, you guys are just too goddamn sensitive about this whole thing. The whole "stop degrading us!" "Stop being so childish!" "Nobody cares which game is better, they're both great!" is a load of bull, really.

Let them have at it for fuck's sake! I can't help but see this mudslinging and badmouthing as absolutely delightful. The consumer does not have unlimited money, these two franchises need to fight each other because at the end of the day only one of these games is going to be the record-breaker. It's McDonalds vs. Burger King, Coke v. Pepsi, Star Wars v. Star Trek, c'mon people!

I say it's high time for a piss-off contest, let them have at it and just say whatever shit they want to say. It's healthy to have a good mudslinging contest every once in a while.
Yep, basically. Videogames will finally be a mature medium when gamers can accept the occasional bit of immaturity without flipping out about how childish something is. We're so worried about what the current establishment thinks of us, and we have such a collective persecution complex, that we wind up attacking each other anytime someone fails to act like a perfect grown up. Sometimes, fear of childishness can be a sign of immaturity in itself -- and this is one of those times.

Edit: Also, you have 9,999 posts. You realize you can never post again, right? Just respond by editing your last post.

Having just saw the new tv spot for bf3, and having seen the new tagline. Which is "above and beyond the call", and obvious dig at CoD. Seriously EA and/or Dice, this is just starting to be you attacking the CoD series like a little kid, the tagline might as well say "buy bf3, because CoD is a pile of doody.
Well I've read a lot of different articles from assorted Dice members about BF3 and they never riped on CoD besides one meantioning them as another shooter on the market bragging about their Frames Per Second more then their gameplay. So with that, EA is most likely the one behind this blow.
OT: As far as digs go, it's not really childish so much as just a cleaver, but ineffective tag. That aside, Activision usually tries at more digs (as far as I know). My personal favorite quote from them isn't really a dig. It was (this isn't word for word) "Battlefield 3? I heard something about it while I was on the floor of E3, but it's exclusive to the PC so I don't think we have to worry about sales competition."

Everyone crying "EA are HORRIBLE TO ACTIVION!" Shut Up! Do you Even know what the quote is from? To get the Medal of Honour, you have to "Go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty." So, if anything, EA showed some Constraint, not finishing the Quote, and instead ending with just "Call".

Am I the only one who doesn't care about this? I find it amusing, and there's nothing wrong with a little smack talk. Isn't that the whole reason people watch wrestling?

I thought it was for the wrestling.....and the women...OMFG WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING WITH MY LIFE!!!

They're both going for the audience of shooter fans and their attacking their primary competitor, its childish but so is lots of advertising. (Oddly enough I think most fans that their going for might end up buying both anyways).

It's a waritme shooter developing team and EA. What the fuck did you expect, the Pepsi Challenge? You're not exactly dealing with people who make works of art, it's a game meant to keep children and drunken lunatics happy for a few minutes by letting them fire a gun. So long as there are no fake achievments related to baby killing, it's tame for EA.

Do you not remember Rift's "We're not in Azeroth anymore!" slogan?

It's just pointing out your competition. It's not childish. It's what they do. One day EA and Activision will unite and do an Olympics game.

Why not do it? It works, its effective, its profitable and its pretty entertaining if you're into that sort of humour. Besides, both of those shooters are for man children anyway. (I should know, i'm one of them :p)
Hahaha!

I can relate to this. As soon as I get online and start "pwning n00bs" I become less of a man and something more akin to a chimp.

I think you may have misused the words "for no reason" here.

Call of Duty is the game that EA wants to overthrow. Why not take jabs at it? Remind everyone about your product instead. It's been done for years, not just in this industry.

I enjoy it. It's fun to get a bit nostalgic and reminisce about the old Sega vs Nintendo wars. Of course, that catered specifically to children and this seems no different.
EA has made it clear they're after CoD, why even bother trying to hide it? I'll be enjoying the mudslinging from my high horse behind a plexiglass wall.

Yeah, can't say I give a shit about either company. Activision lost me after running series like Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero into the ground, and that was before all the BS that CoD has causeed. EA, well, they lost me with their continued BS tactics surrounding their sports games. I HATE That EA publishes Bioware titles now, and I hope to god they don't start adding stupid shit to them as well.
Unless you don't count Miranda's arsenal they have already added shit to Bioware.
Since most of Bioware's titles are not multi-player they haven't done stupid shit like selling power or gradually forcing you to pay more to enjoy the game. Optional DLC that gives you extra characters or content for Mass Effect is fine. I can take it or leave it and the choice doesn't affect my enjoyment of the current game content.

I don't think the majority of the people watching this are even going to get what they are referring to. I have 2 problems with the ad. One is the the song choice. They have the licenses to all those awesome songs from Brutal Legend and this is what the went with? Two why aren't the guys from Bad Company in it.

Besides it's good this bitter rivalry exists. It means the companies might actually put effort into their games.
