The fact PSN has better support & tailored offers for major continents like Europe, is making me itch to buy a PS3 myself.

I just hate this fucking limited XBL that's soley focused on USA. I pay 60 euros with no really proper service given except for playing multiplayer with a community full of mics thus potential douchebags. If XBL doesn't start to improve for the EU, I am going to swing towards another console.
Nothing good can come of this thread, but everybody else is joining in so why not me?
I've found the XBL support in the EU fine. Though admittedly XBL is full of douches, but then again the same is true for every console.

Although I don't see how those sales figures are relevant to anyone besides Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony employees.
Unless you are a fanboy that gets a hard-on when looking at graphs and charts, that is.
I am an economist, you don't have to be a fan boy to get a hard-on looking at charts and graphs.
I was talking about the average consumer.
Of course there's plenty of enjoyment in random data and statistics, which is incidentially the reason why I know console sale figures despite not actually owning any current-gen console.
High five, an article for us.

I'll stick to Monopoly thank you very much!

OT: I have both :)

I have no idea which one is going to "win" I think a certain one is better (not gonna say haha :p) because I play it more and in my opinion it has more advantages, and is more fun to play. But I still enjoy both.

Also as a side note I hope to be getting into PC gaming a lot more in the next few years, although overall I still think I will be a console fanboy...

Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and eventually Uncharted 3.
If I want to hear Nolan North quip for 6 hours, I'll play Assassin's Creed.
I'd say there is a lot more to the first two games than just Nolan North's fine voice acting. The stories are quite good by video game standards. There is character development, and not just good/bad/good again. The plots are (for better or worse) completely in-line with Hollywood blockbuster movies of this genre, and I found them just engrossing enough. Nolan does his usual great job, but he has solid writing to work with, which makes all the difference in the world. Compare this to say, Resident Evil 5, or even Heavy Rain, where sometimes wrong-sounding dialog is distracting.
the actual gameplay mechanics are generally very good, and I would say somewhat improved in the second game. I spent very little time trying to figure out how to use things, or sort out how to go from A to B once I had located both points. The gameplay just works. I'm not a huge plaformer fan, but both Uncharted games strike a nice balance, and generally the platforming was challenging without being too frustrating (though there were a couple of spots that got tedious for me).
I played the games out of order, but I thoroughly enjoyed both. They struck a very good balance between being movie-like and still being great games.
To be completely transparent here, I have both and Xbox 360 and a PS3, and thankfully do not have to choose one or the other. If I did, I'd choose the Xbox 360, as very few of my friends have a PS3. But I would really miss playing the Uncharted games. No other exclusive on the PS3 has given so much enjoyment.

One thing I have wondered in the past is; if Microsoft conceded defeat in the so called console wars, would they call it a lost cause or try and transfer the experience they have picked up into evolving the Windows brand to include a gamers version that would, for example, combine the desktop with the xbox dashboard as well as reducing functionality for improved resource management (eg not having to manually tune the services to free up unnecessary ram usage) and if they did do this, what would the xbox userbase do? Move to one of the other consoles or create a more lucrative pc games market for publishers.

I know this is all just wishful thinking, but just picture it: You install Windows Gamer and there are two icons on the desktop that open perfectly functioning xbox and xbox 360 emulaters that not only play the old xbox discs, but upscale them to whatever resolution your hardware can handle. I think I have something in my eye "sniff".

I think the douchebag ratio is related to the games you play, not the consoles. For instance, I've played Dead or Alive and Monday Night Combat a lot online, and I've almost never encountered these rude squealers that are supposedly everywhere on Xbox Live. Maybe it has something to do with my account "type": Recreational. I don't meddle much with the "underground" or "Pro" crowd, and I would guess the assholes are in these groups. I don't know how much it affects the matchmaking though, or if it has any relevance at all.

But I certainly don't have the kind of experience that so many haters are claiming to suffer. I don't know if I am really an exception or if we're just hearing a very vocal minority, as most people I know of that paid for Xbox Live are very satisfied with their services.

(I can't wait to hear a PC or Sony fanboy claim that I actually work for Microsoft, I will really laugh out loud if I read that one)

isnt xbox and wii doing better than the ps3 and xbox have the lead
The Wii is by far in the lead with 80.5 million units in consumer's hands. Next up is Xbox360 with 48.1M and then PS3 with 43.9M. Now, here is the fun part. The 360 has been out for a full year longer than PS3 and Playstation has been closing that gap for quite a while. Last year at this time the Xbox 360 only had 34.8M units sold, so it is likely to assume that the PS3 will out sell the Xbox eventually.

Granted, these are all world wide numbers.

LOL

"He said that the consoles had their differences, and that both platform holders were very good at using their unique selling points, like Blu-Ray or Xbox Live"

so according ot eh CEO of EA, Xbox's unique selling point is a console that is best for online gaming while Sony's is a console that is best for watching films on?

Fail CEO Fails

I can hear the facepalm from Sony all the way in the UK

You shut your mouth and let me enjoy my chart on. Mmmm, graphjam.

Okay, in retrospect, that was kind of creepy actually.

ps3 might possibly win internationally, however, in the U.S. xbox will remain on top.
So if I want to play online with people who believe that the earth is older than 6,000 years, and who don't call everybody a "n****r" or a "f****t", I should buy a PS3?
Nope, that's every platform.
But less Americans means less of the above...
This may sound crazy, but people are generally douche bags everywhere in the world. I know, crazy. Although it seems there are less little kids on the PS3 (I'm sure there is a statistic that proves me wrong), or at least I run into fewer of them.

I figured that with the number of units sold by both PS3 and 360, both could rightly be considered a successful console. I don't really think either one could 'lose' at this point.

I do think that the PS3 will eventually surpass the 360 in total number of units sold, but both make a truck load of money for their respective companies.

wait what? Didn't the Xbox come out first? If you have a HUGE head start against a console in the beginning, and you still lose the console war at the end then microsoft fails hard. Jesus christ. Way to turn a 10 mile lead into a -100 mile lead.
The 360 came out first. Before that, you had the original Xbox. Which came out after the PS2, and was pretty much doomed to second place by virtue of the fact that the PS2 was more popular than God for a 5 year period. And the reason for that is because Sony had already trounced Nintendo the previous generation, and had instilled the word 'Playstation' in every console gamer's mind.

The fact that Microsoft came to the console market an entire generation after Sony, yet has managed to end two generations of Playstation dominance with the 360, actually says rather good things about the way they've marketed the thing.
uhh, no, that was the Wii, the 360 had a year's headstart on both of them and now look, the Wii has opened up a whole new market for gaming and has sold almost twice the consoles Microsoft has, the PS3 on the other hand was met by many things, for a start, Xbox had a full year headstart and unlike Sony, Completely abandoned their previous Xbox owners and trying to establish itself as a hardcore gaming demographic. Sony had released PS3 in 2006 and is catching up on the 360, fast, by the end of 2011 I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 gets into 2nd place(or joint 2nd)think about it this way, if all 3 consoles came out on the same date in 2005 as the 360 did, what would the sales be? because if we count from the day the Wii launched (November 17th 2006) you'd know that the PS3 would be ahead of the 360.

P.S: sorry if that came off as fanboyish, I wasn't trying to be, but don't say *this* single-handedly beat *that*, it's anoying.
off topic:If the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox hadn't killed Sega and the Dreamcast, what would the Videogame industry be like today? I think it would be alot bigger, with Nintendo and Sega fighting in the casual market and Sony and microsoft fighting in the gaming market, with either sides not getting properly into both(e.g. things like the Move and Kinect wuld completely bomb) also there would be more handheld stuff, the PSP would be around, the DS still king but Sega would probably have some sort of handheld but microsoft, ehh... probably not.

I'd be excited if I didn't have it on PC if that helps
