I'm not sure if I really believe that the name recognition of the Playstation brand is really that much superior to Xbox.

Well if anyone expected Microsoft to outsell a company with its base in Japan, in Japan, I'll show you a very naive person. I'm still waiting for suitable motivation to buy the PS3 myself, so I've always been confused at all the people gushing over it.
Metal Gear Solid 4? God of War 3? Little Big Planet? Heavy Rain? inFamous? Blu-Ray? Free online play? Really I could keep going, but I think you get the point.
To be fair, I can list plenty of reasons to buy an Xbox. Halo, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Fable...
I have a PS3, it collects dust in the corner, it was last hooked up a year ago to play FF8 (a PS1 game)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Played it, did NOT like it, it was like a movie where everything is outrageously ridiculously over the top stupid.
God of War 3: Never played it, but from what I've seen and heard it sounds like a solid title
Little Big Planet: It's a platformer, it's something to try if you already own the PS3, but not anywhere near a reason to get one.
Heavy Rain: No thanks, I'll read a book if I want the entire game to be based on a story, I'm sure it's not bad, but it doesn't excite me either
InFamous: I played Prototype, close enough, there are plenty of sandbox superhero games
Bluray: I use my console for gaming, not watching over priced Blu Ray dvds, I just watch movies on my computer with an HDMI extending it to the TV, cheap and effective
Free Online Play: When you're spending $60 for new releases, anybody heavily considering $5 a month a deal breaker is insane.
I'm not saying the PS3 is bad in general or anything, but when it comes down to it, here's my reasons for one:
1.) God of War 3, and on a lesser side LBP
2.) $5 less a month
It may be good for some people, but definitely not for me.
