This made me think of something. Didn't they say Killzone was going to be a Halo killer? And look how that turned out.

Crysis was just.....boring.

You got a very generic selection of weapons, generic special abilities, generic setting, generic bad-guys, generic aliens, generic allies, generic non-allies-non-enemies and a generic story.

The only good thing was the graphics, and that was only there if you had the PC to run it.

why do games vy to be "Halo killers" or "Wow killers". Not only do they always fall flat on their face but the people behind them should aim for something different.

Yeah, and I still have an old magazine where they declared "Dark Cloud" the "Zelda-Killer."

That turned out well, huh?

I still recall that Killzone set out with a similar goal only to completely drop off the charts and fail to defeat Halo. However Modern Warfare 2 has now become the top selling FPS franchise so that's obviously the title to try and beat.
I honestly get sick of developers taking potshots at each other's games though, whether it's a franchise I like being pot shotted or not. Halo is my favourite game franchise, Crysis is not so I doubt I'll be astounded by it. Plus, as I said, it's kind of unfair to still label Halo with a bunch of insults about being the 'top FPS to beat' even now given that as I said before that's Modern Warfare 2.
But also like I said, I don't like it when developers make pot shots at each others games. Fanbases, sure, why not? I've gotten used to this, but I would expect a developer to be more mature.

Admittedly it is always kind of funny when someone hypes up their game by insulting other games only to then fail, sort of poetic justice I guess. Not saying I wish that upon Crysis 2 but I'm saying it would be kind of funny.

If Crysis 2 plays well and the lead writer has got the bite to go with his bark, we're going to be in for one Hell of a ride.

Halo killed DOOM (or some other old game)
Medal of Honor was good
COD killed MOH
COD 4 killed Halo.
BFBC2 killed COD.
Activision killed COD.
COD killed COD.
COD died.

HL2 Ep 3 never arrived.

Why can't they all just get along..............

(PS: i apologise if you do not agree with this chart, this is simply my opinion)

I don't like Halo very much, but fuck Crysis. It's a terrible game, and I don't really think the second one will be any better. You know what, I hope they continue to make conceited gloating comments like this one so they can fall flat on their ass when their game fails both critically and commercially.

More than anything, though, this speaks to the power of the Halo brand - even after it's been kicked from the king of the hill as the best-selling console FPS, it's still the game to beat. Even if it makes you look a bit backward to say so.

Just as a matter of personal opinion as a gamer, I think it's more a matter of the identity associated with HALO rather than the game itself that Mr. Gibeau is referring to.

- Love him or hate him, Master Chief is still very much an icon of FPS games. He was followed and preceded by other icons to the genre (Doom's space marine, Marcus Fenix, Gordon Freeman) but he was in the game that served to revitalize FPS games, in particular the multiplayer aspects, not to mention the substantial branding power behind the Chief and the "HALO" license.
- There are two points in the series' success that I'm sure any developer wants to beat:
o 5 million copies sold worldwide within four years on a series' debut title (HALO: Combat Evolved)
o A revenue of $170 million US on release day (HALO 3)

I'm not so much reading that they want to topple HALO in terms of gameplay, innovation or story, because all those legs have already been broken by Bungie themselves. Mr. Gibeau is just projecting (hoping) that Crysis 2 makes them a shit-ton of money, that's all.

I don't care how many big sellers it 'kills'. I feel that console FPS's in general suck these days. Hell I'm willing to say that most of the console games that have been coming out recently suck. That might have to do with the market being top heavy with watered down, bland, generic shooters.

I feel that the innovation has gone from console gaming developers. I don't want them to one up the last developer, I want them to do something original.

I think that the slander of Halo is just trying to draw attention to an unoriginal generic game. If it's anything like Crysis 1, it will be pretty lackluster.

Sigh...

Good job. You can kill a game that is ending itself. Thats a great marketing campaign. Why not a Call of Duty killer? I mean, there are going to be more of those in the future. Or does EA not think that Crysis can beat CoD?

Stupid companies... I preferred it back when products and advertisements couldn't use competing products as direct comparisons.
You still can't in South Africa. Whoa yeah for representative democracy [small] that has 12 separate government funded kingdoms...[/small]

Why do they say that it is coming to consoles (and pc). Does no-one give a fig about pc?! Now that I finally have a pc it is suddenly dying to consoles. When everyone has a pc and each person only has one maybe 2 consoles that are far less advanced than a pc. I can't wait for this console generation to quietly strangle itself... waiting done.

I feel as though I have to say this, even if everyone else has already.

You don't need a "halo killer" anymore. I don't want to say halo is dead, but for the most part, if you want to take on the online FPS gamers nowadays, go for a "Modern Warfare Killer" or "Realistic Shooter Killer."

I'm pretty sure Halo 3 is still one of the top games, and MW2 killed CoD. Halo: Reach is a Crysis killer. Play the beta, it's super awesome.

Crysis 2 is also set to be a Crysis killer by beating it's glorious predecessors to death with all the compromises it's made to work on consoles (no offense console people)
PC version will support Dx11 so they didn't compromise nothing there.

To be honest I don't know how the hell are they gonna make Crysis 2 run on consoles on Dx9 when most PC's couldn't run it with decent graphics on high end machines 2 years ago, and Xbox 360 was released like in 2005 and PS3 in 2006? They are gonna make some serious compromises for the console version. It wont matter though since PC is still the leading platform. They are just trying to squeeze more money out of console people. Fine by me, I don't like console people (and I sound like a douche right now)
