Actually old machines could get a fairly respectable image quality 1280x720 30fps double-bufferedImprovizoR said:PC version will support Dx11 so they didn't compromise nothing there.Bobzer77 said:Crysis 2 is also set to be a Crysis killer by beating it's glorious predecessors to death with all the compromises it's made to work on consoles (no offense console people)
To be honest I don't know how the hell are they gonna make Crysis 2 run on consoles on Dx9 when most PC's couldn't run it with decent graphics on high end machines 2 years ago, and Xbox 360 was released like in 2005 and PS3 in 2006? They are gonna make some serious compromises for the console version. It wont matter though since PC is still the leading platform. They are just trying to squeeze more money out of console people. Fine by me, I don't like console people (and I sound like a douche right now)

The settings are not high but at 1600x1200 thats almost double the pixels of 720p so a drop in res would make the framerates more stable or give better settings, 8800GTX was from 2007 but is running a higher res and faster frames than what the consoles will run Crysis 2 at and thats with a new cryengine to help them.
Consoles are a bit tricky on the tech side the hardware doesn't improve but you have direct low level access to the hardware but it requires very optimised code to get the power needed.
PC runs API's which sap performance but make coding easier by using the same language irrespective of which particular piece of hardware is available the API handles the tricky stuff for you.
Despite the performance loss PC hardware advances at a rate that counters the benefits of a more specialised platform (console)
Crysis 2 on the consoles cannot achieve the quality of image that todays Dx.11 cards will generate but I don't agree that it will be a comprimise because it will be the best experience that the hardware can provide.
As for PC most hardware review sites don't even bother using resolutions below 1680x1050 anymore and at its maximum 2560x1600 thats 4.4 times the pixels of a 720p image the PC is quite comfortably going to be Crysis 2 highest expression.
Consoles won't hold Crysis 2 back just like how the hardware of 2007 not being up to scratch didn't hold Crysis back
