If they own Origin and distribute games through that service instead of Steam, they don't split the money with Valve. It's a LOOOONG way to go for another leg up on a fraction of the game's retail cost, they'd probably lose it in maintenance costs, but that's greed for you. I'm going to guess that this is some executive's pet idea and he's too stubborn to give ground on it in spite of how all signs seem to point to this being the worst idea EA has ever had.let said:Another reason EA origins will fail to the point of no return against steam. Also, why does it matter if the game is bought on origins or steam? they get just as much money selling them for the same price, so does it really matter?
You mean something likeKevlar Eater said:So EA might be scamming people by veiling Origin as a digital distribution service, when in reality it's a rental service? Now I know who not to "buy" games from, since EA considers them a service. Yeah, they're worse than Activision, in my eyes.
Of course, they're hiding all of this with legalese.
Yeah, EA is the devil and Steam is divine...Valve hereby grants, and you accept, a limited, terminable, non-exclusive license and right to use the Software for your personal use in accordance with this Agreement and the Subscription Terms. The Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Software.
While this is correct, and Valve has banned people for some not-so-good reasons, nothing compares to EA.Frenger said:People should read the EULA to any service or any game the past 20 years or so, if not further back, before bitching about EA.
Valve is no better.
Haha, no argument from me on those points, I'm pissed over the fact that they got Bioware by the balls - but that's another topic altogether.Traun said:While this is correct, and Valve has banned people for some not-so-good reasons, nothing compares to EA.Frenger said:People should read the EULA to any service or any game the past 20 years or so, if not further back, before bitching about EA.
Valve is no better.
Origin eat 8 times more resources than Steam.
EA has the policy of banned from forum = banned from game. And considering that they ban people for ANYTHING you might as well kiss your acc. goodbye.
EA customer service.
EA Store.
EA PR.
While Valve has a similar rule, they have shown support for their community, dedication and willingness to work.
EA shuts down game servers after 2 years, scraps project after project and has so far had an abysmal customer support.
I doubt they will be stupid enough to do that...and if they do I hope they fail because...well fuck that thats not the direction things should be going inRedEyesBlackGamer said:You could just buy retail. Unless they make them digital only. If they really wanted to push Origin, they might do that. I still see it failing long term. Maybe bombing all together.Eclectic Dreck said:Well, they have access to those new EA titles I suppose. Most of which fail to pique my interest.RedEyesBlackGamer said:Wow, makes you wonder if Origin will even last a year. What do they have over Steam again?
It'd survive that easily. Unless a singularity opens up and swallows the building the servers are located in. Which considering the hate ea has garnered like a gold farmer in wow, might actually happen.JNA17 said:I will give Origin 30 minutes after it launches to survive.
