Like every great bit of spyware, it tries to lure you in with well wishes...

Although it's usually porn and not video games.

The discount isn't here, in the Netherlands, possible whole Europe. :(
Not here in Germany either.
Damm... 40% off BF3 and would have got it.
Maybe well get them later.
just checked, and it's not here in the UK either. Game publishers do seem to have this thing against Europe. Come to think of it, they have something against anywhere that isn't America.

In better news GOG has a good sale on too. And in this case you can't get banned from playing your games. Happy shopping!
Gah, I've been ninja'd.

But yeah, lots of titles are selling for $3 on GoG right now. What's more, they're also giving away Empire Earth: Gold Edition for free, no strings attached.

Empire Earth: Gold Edition, as in the first?
as in the only good one? (yes Empire Earth 2 had some good ideas but over all, not so much)

Until Origin's terms become less vague, and they stop banning people for incredibly asinine reasons, I won't touch it, no matter what deals they're offering.

You could give Arkham City away for free (DLC included), and I still wouldn't install your Corporate Spyware.

"FUCK THEM"

Are people still angry, despite the changed EULA and the fact that they publish pretty good games?
Even the revised version is still too vague.
Last I checked, that term "software" STILL hasn't been legally clarified, so they're STILL effectively demanding complete access to your hard drive, since EVERYTHING stored there is legally considered 'SOFTWARE'.

See, I keep hearing this from people who I assume have legitimate, up to date sources, but then I see things like this [http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7804065.page?ClickID=annw0wzlw5znaz5wv0ot5pa59s0550yvksrn] simply refuting this argument, and now I just don't know who to believe.

Do you like cheap PC games?
Yes!

Then head over to the Origin Store and snag some sweet, sweet discounts.

EA has a big holiday treat available for Origin customers: The publisher has launched a one-day sale on the Origin Store that's knocked about 40% off of most of the games that are for sale.
Oh. 40% off is not cheap, it's just less expensive. Steam sales, now those are cheap PC games. And it's Origin, so it doesn't matter if they were offering actual cheap games, it's still not worth it. I don't like living in constant fear that I could be banned from playing all my games because someone stuck my username on the end of a swear filled flamefest on one of EA's forums. Ha ha, I like how everyone is all BLUH BLUH ORIGIN IS SPYWARE even though it's technically the exact same thing as Steam, and now that they cleaned up their EULa it also invades your privacy just as much, and is about as likely to ban your from all your games forever.

You know what I don't like? How most of the sales don't show up for me and how I have to update and agree to a new slightly different EULA every time I log on. Step up your game, EA, you can't expect me to actually remember my password.

Tell you what EA, you pay me 40% and I might consider using origin for some of your games. Still unlikely though.

I so get the feeling you work for EA in some capacity. As people have already said, EA are not a company I want to trust... ever.
haha, I can see why you'd think that.. I don't, incidentally. No affiliation, except that i'm something of a consistent customer.

Perhaps it's short-lived nostalgia. I've only really 'done' gaming for less than a decade, really, but BF2 was my first shooter, Crysis is one of my favourite games ever, Burnout Paradise is a game i continually return to, etc, etc. Plus whenever people talk about how asshole-ish EA is I have trouble relating, as they've never screwed me over personally. On the other hand, steam gave me quite a few problems when I set it up initially, and I've always thought valve games were horrendously overrated.

So yeah, I'm cool with trusting EA. I've got no reason not to, and I can't help but think that all the anti-EA sentiment floating around is just the done thing: the standard anti-establishment corporate hatred that i've come to know on every forum ever.
Quite the opposite for me, I've not been 'gaming' for very long myself, having grown up fairly poor etc etc. But since buying myself an Xbox, as well as a PC capable of running more than indie games, I have been playing quite a wide variety of games including EA, and I have to say they have published some absolute gems.

But in recent times I find myself hating them for their many documented practices, if you stick around on this site for long enough, you will see what I mean. They are, to me, the big fat mean corporation you find in any industry. Actually, just type EA into the search bar, and you will find at least 90% of it is bad news, usually involving them shitting on whatever little guy that gets in their way.

It's good that you haven't had any problems with them at all, I just hope it never occurs.

Maybe so but there has been a trust fostered between Valve and PC games. I'm not saying that this trust isn't potentially misplaced, but EA has never given gamers a reason to trust them.
So give EA a chance to earn some trust back. If you constantly shoot down everything EA comes out with because it's EA, then this trend will never turn around. However you look at it, EA has made a significant contribution to modern gaming. I wouldn't like a series of appalling advertising decisions to completely sink a company that, from a technical perspective, i have a great deal of respect for.
I so get the feeling you work for EA in some capacity. As people have already said, EA are not a company I want to trust... ever.
This. EA has already shown its true colors far too many times for us to simply forgive and trust them. They are a greedy, despicable, out of touch corporation that has shown through their ads and policies just how low they think of their customers and just how little they care. I can only hope Origins somehow financially ruins EA and signs their downfall,- but maybe that's a little preemptive

Couldn't Origin block you out of your legally purchased games at their slightest whim, or when they are moody, or when the moon is at its very zenith?
If Origin were a female, you'd run the risk once a month :)

Not much of a bargain considering what you have to give up and what you run the risk of having done to you.

Did they slash off the clause that allows them to entirely scan your computer and do what they want with the data? No? No interest.
