BREAKING NEWS
EA Maintain that they are oblivious to being the worst publisher fail ever and spout more bullshit nobody cares about.

You dont know if they are ignoring the raging fanbase to maintain the appearance of positivity or they are just genuinely retarded rich people who don't take notice of whats going on around them.

tbh I'm gunna avoid buying games for awhile

Planetside 2 is out soon thats f2p as long as it rawks i'll play that for a long time.

That downloads figure would only mean something if it was it was not required for so many AAA games. It is quite telling that they don't draw attention to the amount of current users of Origin, which I suspect falls very short of their downloads.
90+ ratings for all games is also an unreasonable goal that they will never be able to attain.

removing the horror from Dead Space for action
Wait, Dead Space is a HORROR game?

No, I call bullshit. There's no way that someone could fail that bad at making a horror game. It's quite clearly an action game, albiet one with an interesting ammo-management system that does seem to be taken from the horror genre.

Any game where the primary weapon severs limbs cannot be a horror game. Hell, if you have a weapon at ALL, you're drifting from that spot.
.
Its a horror game.

I'm guessing that Alien, Dracula, Friday the 13th, Aliens and every other horror movie ever made are not horror movies or don't have horror in them because a gun/weapon exists?

Dead Space ain't terrifyingly scary but it certainly is horror whether you like it or not.

OT: EA making bold statements and fucking up what made Dead Space great.....*sigh*

Weapons do not automatically ruin a horror film or story. However weapons have to be used carefully because they will automatically create a sense of empowerment or certainty of survival if they are given to a protagonist. These emotions are directly contrary to horror since the very heart of horror is vulnerability and uncertainty.

Alien, Dracula and Friday the 13th are horror films because the main characters are either unarmed, or woefully ill-equipped for the situation. You cannot be certain that any of the protagonists will survive and they are at the mercy of the monsters. Aliens treads the line between horror and action because the marines have weapons which are very effective at killing Xenomorphs and thus they are not truly vulnerable. We see many Xenomorphs die in that film and thus they lose some of their potency, due to the fact that we know that they can be overcome.

Dead Space can at best be described as an Action game with Horror elements. The fact that you have readily available weapons with adequate ammo means that a player is empowered and not vulnerable. The dismemberment system also works against horror by showing that your foes are just as mortal as you are. If ammo was made scarce, I would be more inclined to call it a Horror game.
PM me if you wish to continue debating this topic against me, I don't want to derail this topic.

I'm sure Origin could outdo Steam...if it provided a better service, just as Facebook provided a better service than Myspace. The problem is it just doesn't. EA simply cannot get their overinflated head around the notion that the games market is about service now, not products.

Metacritic is maybe the worst thing going on in the video game world today.
No, thats Games for Windows Live.
Oof. Hard to argue with that, but I like Games of Windows Live is annoying and awful, but Metacritic makes studios develop terribad games.

This is pretty much what crossed my mind when reading the article.

Has anyone got a fitting "Patronizing Wonka" for this?

"If MySpace had stayed the one answer in social networking and no one switched to Facebook, then we'd all be stuck on MySpace right now and we wouldn't have had the Facebook phenomenon,"

Wait, what? I'm pretty sure that's a tautology. If we all keep using Myspace, we would keep using Myspace!

Saying that 12 million people downloaded origin is more or less meaningless, because you're forced to install it before you play your games (but AFTER you've paid for them!). Tell us how many people bought another game through Origin, or how many people later deleted it. C'mon, it shouldn't be too hard EA, you're monitoring our every move through it anyways!

The mousetrap: A disturbingly accurate metaphor.
Origin is the mousetrap, and they place a delectable piece of cheese on the pad (Mass Effect 3, Battlefield, etc.) and then when you try and get the cheese, it snaps shut and kills you (Fills your computer with spyware and sadness)

Also, you can't find that particular type of cheese anywhere outside of Origin brand mousetraps, so if you've got a hankering for some gorgonzola or jarlsberg, you're out of luck unless you're willing to risk it.

Wow, that was a little more ranty than I had intended. Isn't it weird how every press release made by any exec from EA makes them look even stupider?

Anyways, I'm off to go buy some more games at 75% off through steam!

Ah EA, whenever I feel down I can count on you to cheer me up. The main difference between you and Steam is that while admittedly I was forced to use both of you through Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 3, Steam has grown on me and goes out of it's way to help me.
I'm too poor to buy a game, they put it on sale - which you vowed never to do as it "cheapens" gaming.
They let me turn off alerts - you force me to close an ad for a game I already own every time I have to log on to play BF3.
They let me customize my experience - you keep reverting to the same way whenever I turn on my PC.
They care about their community - you...well enough said on that one really...

Ah EA when will you ever learn that today's customers aren't stupid like you think they are and they are savvy enough to see every bullshit in your ways, not to mention your PR department is a giant clusterfuck.

Well if I ever see them acknowledge their mistakes and admit that they fucked up that would be a fucking miracle. (In other words, it won't happen.)

On the note of PR.

"If MySpace had stayed the one answer in social networking and no one switched to Facebook, then we'd all be stuck on MySpace right now and we wouldn't have had the Facebook phenomenon," he said.
Am I the only one not remembering the time when Facebook held our friends hostage and said we couldn't speak to them anymore unless we joined their service?

Facebook and Myspace are completely optional services, to compare to them the compulsory service of Origin is just lying.

So, yes, you can quote figures and say "More people have joined" but given it's a service they're forced into, you're basically saying "Mass Effect 3 sold well".

They are gonna try every way just to look good in the eyes of its investors and as far as I know that includes lying, but even EA's PR department sucks at that.

(capcha: under the sea)I wish that will happen to EA in the next couple of years until they clean their act.

I believe it when I see it. Steam is only getting better and better. Origin is... Well. Just Origin. Just another DRM for me, just like Uplay, Windows Live and that Bioware shit ME and DA has. Steam has evolved into something more than just DRM. It's a service and almost preferable now. I sometimes get annoyed when a game does not have Steam. That's how big it is. I never would've believed a DRM could do that.

"EA is in a really interesting place," he added. "We have this bar that is set so high, so that whether it is any of our games or services, we want to be 90 plus Metacritic at everything.

D-Did they just admit that they will BRIBE everyone to get that 90 and up score?! It sure FEELS that way since all he was talking about was how "profitable" Origins is and not HOW they will improve the GAMES that they release without hyping it through marketing or transforming it into a generic FPS!

And what "bar" are you referring to since only one that exist in your office is labeled "Sales Profit" and the bars labeled "development time extension and quality control" got dumped in the garbage out back a LONG time ago

Facebook is massively popular, for all the WRONG reasons! aren't you being too zealous in trying to replace EVERYONE on the social side (Facebook) and gaming side (STEAM)!?

They should pick a more ambitious target like being at least 50% metacritic in user score for everything. Because isn't it the paying customers who they are working for.
