What is this business with earning cheats and alterations to your game? Is it old fasioned to up down down AABZA? Thoughts?

I never used cheats in older games, I'm certainly not going to use them now. Although, they can provide some fun after you beat the game.
I always perfered the console system a la Morrowind. Then again I prefer anything seen in Morrowind.
Well, I guess since the internet made obtaining cheats a bit too easy, they decided to make one earn them rather than find them.
It also makes sure you play the game the way they intended you to play it, rather than being able to press a few buttons and skip most of the levels, which they worked hard on.
Just earn them and feel like you did something.

Whatever happened to inputting some buttons and suddenly we have infinite health and super speed?

It dosen't make a diffrence to me. I think the unlockable cheats are superior because they encourge exploring the game world for the collectible that would unlock the desired cheat instead of just looking on the Internet.
In some cases, it works, ie. Tomb Raider Legend: 100% complete the game to unlock the Soul Reaver cheat. (Press F9 to get the freaking Soul Reaver from the Kane series.)
The game insists on you playing the game properly, then getting the fun stuff to add a bit of replay value.

It was that last question that threw me.
Sure unlockables are cool and all, but I'm not really the cheating type unless I've already beat the piss out of a game again and again, so I mean... doesn't make any difference to me.
