I used to be freaked out by scary games and movies, but I figured out a way to get over it. Try it if you like, see if it works. Basically, you analyse every aspect of it. I've done it enough that I can do it almost subconsciously.

You deliberately listen to the music to see if it's trying to lull you into a false sense of security. You examine the setting, trying to find the dark corner where something scary will pop out. You watch the way the camera's moving, observing angles and what's in frame. It also helps to know the tropes of horror, so when something's coming it's easier to pick.

It doesn't work 100%, you'll probably still be scared, but it won't really be quite as scary as it would be otherwise.

Funny story, though. One night one of my friends was playing Doom with the lights down, of course. Myself and another friend waited for him to get to a scary bit and then started whispering 'i know a song that'll get on your nerves' in his ear. For an entirely non-freaky song, it freaked him out to no end.

I can't really get scared, because I either find a major flaw with the thing I am supposed to be scared of, or I just find it impossible to take it seriously. Example: Oh shit, it is big daddy! Oh never mind, it got blown up by a completely random grenade and trap bolt. Example 2: Holy hell, its pyramid head! Oh wait when did the room get so rusty and bloody? You know what, I will go find a paint bucket and paint this room yellow. What? Oh you're still here. Can ripping my skin off wait? I want to die in my happy place. No? Well...*Shoots with shotgun* TOO FUCKING BAD!! BE PATIENT, ASSHOLE!

yeah something like that. except not knowing where the enemy unnerves me. once they grab me or get close I'm actually not as scared. because now I know where they are and can deal with them effectively

Yes, in a way. Like if someone sneaks up behind me and taps my shoulder, I jump. Or if someone says my name when I wasn't expecting it.

One thing in particular, floating, walking, and/or animated disembodied hands. I still haven't finished Twilight Princess because of those things.

After watching a horror movie or a horror game, all my thoughts seem to put me deeper and deeper into a state of paranoia.

The movie itself doesn't really scare me, but I can freak myself out really easily. If there's one really creepy image in the movie, that image will pervade all my thoughts for the next hour or so.

More in retrospect than anything else since I'm now a horror veteran, but yeah, I know where you're coming from. Especially when you're real young, scary video games can really do you a number. I still have a small fear of grey-skinned, slashed-up bald shrieking demon children wielding knives, ever since my first foray into survival horror, Silent Hill. I've mostly gotten over it now that I own the game again and slaughter them in a genocidal, gleeful, bloodbath-y way even on hard.

No, I never get scared.

I have a different and worse problem, whenever something surprises me I freeze for a second or two. It's worse because this happens everywhere and I can not control it. It's one of the reasons I shouldn't get a car, if I "freeze" when driving there's a chance it's not going to end well.
