Easy, normal, hard?

i go for normal first off, then i slowly work my way up, except for Gears 2, where i though "i've done Gears 1 on Insane, by myself. Hardcore will be a breeze!" before promplty getting raped

Hard first, to get an idea of what I'm up agianst, then once I get a hang of the game through that mode, I move to normal to make the game easier.

How do you play, and why?

-Normal. It lets me get through the game with challenge, but I don't have to break flow by being on the cheap end of a bullshit loss.

Normal usually. If I REALLY like the game enough to play again I'll swap it up a level for the next play through.

My friend will often pick the harder difficulty at first. On every CoD game, he ALWAYS plays the campaign on Hardened the first time...except WaW, where he braved Veteran...and finished it (not in a timely fashion, though). If there's 4 difficulties for a game, and "normal" is the 2nd easiest, he'll usually do the 3rd.

mmmmm depends on the game for me, if its story heavy i go for an easier option, i recently played through bioshock and i started on hard mode...this made the game so much more scary and gave it a greater feel of survival. on easy mode...one hit from basically anything kills the splicers and they just become like pop-ups and absolutely no challenge. when on hard mode, they are ALL much tougher to kill and you run out rations quicker etc...all that said, still not a super hard game imo. for ROME TW, hardest difficulty all the way.

Same here, although if its part of a series and I completed the last game on hardest I generally play the next one on hardest as well.

Easy. Then Normal. Then Hard. I basically annihilate each game on every difficulty setting in turn, very fun to do Gears Of War like that. Or Halo. Or any FPS or 3PS...

Exactly. I play easy for the controls and story, then move onto normal and hard to enjoy the challenge.

yeah, pretty much what they said. if i'm feeling sassy i may go straight from easy to hard but generally i go up gradually.

Easy if I'm not familiar with the game series or mechanics, then I move on to Normal. Depending on how frustrating the game is from there, I might move on to higher difficulties. I rarely feel motivated to play on the harder difficulties because what makes the game harder is usually cheap tricks and not enough checkpoints.

If a game is fair, on the other hand, I might play all the difficulties. I beat DMC3: SE on Dante Must Die. The only reason I didn't beat HoH was because it was so boring. Quicksilver+ Infinite DT= no challenge at all.

Recently I started Halo for the first time. Since I had already played Halo 2, I started in on Normal so it'd be a bit tougher. I definitely regretted that when I got to the Library, but it's been pretty fun overall.

I like to take it easy while doing something to handicap myself.

Eg completing crysis without using any weapons, only the punches.
