Easy, normal, hard?

I usually play on normal. It tends to provide enough of a challenge to keep things interesting without becoming frustrating. But that really applies only to shooters.

I find that in RTS games it's really annoying because on easy you have to be really trying to lose but on normal or hard the AI is endowed with magical powers that allow it to have access to enough resources to build a regiment of tanks by the time you've got your first decent unit building.

I remember I decided to play MoH Pacific Assault on the super-death-hard-as-buggery difficulty and played through the first two missions with relative success and got really stuck in one bit of the third, by that point I had gone so far that turning back would have been just as frustrating so I kept at it for a teeth-gnashingly long time. And then the game had the f*cking nerve to penalise me for not completing all the bonus objectives!

Easy first, for sightseeing, story, and to get the feel of the game. Then work my way up the difficulty scale in later plays until it stops being fun.

Depends on the genre. For shooters, I can usually grab the hardest difficulty because my reflexes are good enough. For RTS I usually take medium or medium-hard, seeing as computers have this uncanny ability to tear shit up in a quarter of the time it takes you to build your first unit. RPGs, usually hard.

Of course, all those hard difficulties are just to prove my masculinity.

I guess I didn't explain what I meant clearly enough. I've never had much of a tolerance for scary things. I mean, the first horror movie I had ever seen was the Village, and that scared me senseless. That was years ago, mind you, but the concept remains. I played FEAR and FEAR2 on Normal, but Dead Space on Easy. Why? FEAR wasn't all that scary, but Dead Space was downright crazy. If I had to worry about my health any more than I did already, I doubt I'd have been able to sleep at night.
Heh, funny, FEAR and Dead Space were exactly the two things that came to my mind when I was saying that shooters with a lot of gore are no horror games. But now I can see where you're going :p
I wouldn't have put Dead Space into the 'gore instead of horror' category, but that's just me. I haven't really played Condemned. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Fatal Frame never really called to me, so I guess that puts me right out of the horror genre, eh?

Normal, if that turns out to be ridiculously hard then I may go to easy, but I can't remember that ever happening.

Normal. I still am able to see all of a game's content, while still having a good challenge. Once I memorize the basic level design of the levels, I start doing things like COD4 Veteran or Gears Insane.

I like playing easy on CoD. It's just so fun to mow nazi down. Also the intelligence of the nazis on easy is just about as realistic on how smart they were in the actual war. LOL

Hard, imo game difficulties are getting easier as time is going by. I play single player for 2 reasons, story and a challenge. You dont get better if the game isnt challenging.

I always start with the easy version, then the normal and at the end the hard one. I like discovering new difficulties in every version.

normal, then hard, then if there's a harder mode (like professionl on Resi 5) then i have a crack at that.

i have to say though, professional mode on Resi 5 was ridiculously easy in my opinion, but i only did it with infinite ammo.

Normal
Except in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, CHRIST THAT WAS EVIL
Also, try Crysis without using cloak at all and it gets much more intricate and challenging

Usually I start on easy to get used to the mechanics then go to hard to see if ( in FPS ) they spam grenades or explosives, or power attacks ( RPG ) if it is to cheesy then i go back to normal and hope it doesnt stay that cheesy.
