Well, I guess they realised they needed a way to get rid of all those Xbones they've already manufactured and this would get them better PR than dumping them in a hole a la ET video game style.

Well at this stage the only way I'll have a xbox one is if I win it and even then I might just sell it. I do like my Doritoes.

I MIGHT take an Xbone if I get one for free, but it's gonna take a lot of back-pedaling by Microsoft (i.e. removing the restrictions) to get me to actually WANT one.

Microsoft wants to promote to the stereotype of the fratboy who calls his friends "bro" and thinks keg stands should be an olympic discipline. You, like the opposite of the nerd stereotype with the thick rimmed glasses that are taped in the middle, the pocket protector and the asthma inhaler.

Those "bros" are probably not smart enough to figure out why the xbone wont work when the Verizon shuts off their intetrnet because they didn't pay the bill and then they'll buy a new console to play more call of duty.
Microsoft calculates that some people will buy ten consoles before they figure out that something might be wrong there :p

So how exactly can you turn munching chips and "doing the Dew" into an Xbox One? We're not quite sure yet. Distinctly lacking in the announcement of the promotion was an explanation of how it would actually work.
We all know how it's going to work: go to the website, enter the code from your bottle cap or bag o' chips, and see if you won anything. I mean there's not really many other ways FOR it to work.

The funny thing is, this gives me an excuse to swear off Doritos (which I do enjoy from time to time) and Mt. Dew (which I'm not a particularly big drinker of in the first place) until this promotion is over. I want absolutely NOTHING to do with the Xbox One, even if I were offered a free one. I don't want to be seen as encouraging MS's shitty design practices in even a tangential way by coincidentally showing support for this promotion by buying a bag of chips.

I wondered if they'll have to add a disclaimer anywhere some thing along the lines of "may increase risk of diabetes, obesity and Xbox one." Well I suppose they've got to get rid of them somehow.

Also as a bonus we will give free diabetes for all participants! Perfect plan!

But I don't want an XBox One. Not even if I win one.
Win it and trade it in for a PS4?
who in his right mind would be the reciepient of such trade? you would have to pay extra for somone to take it like that.

If I win, I'll sell it then use the money to go buy a PS4 and a game. Otherwise a Xbone will never enter my house.

Eat and drink things that I don't like to have a chance to win something that I don't want. I'll get right on that ;).
Maybe their reasoning behind it is akin to being: If say they would never buy an Xbone then maybe they'll take one for free and reluctantly use it and make them money on all the services, subscriptions, accessories and etc.

This is the XBone in a nut shell. It's the Doritos and Mountain Dew of game consoles.

Don't forget to watch Spike TV while eating Doritos and Mountain Dew, because these are the only three corporate whores that will support our half-baked gaming system.

BTW, Spike TV, saying your full coverage of E3 when, so far, you've only shown Microsoft and EA (aka the douche-bag Wonder Twins) is bigger bullshit than what Microsoft is preaching these days.

I'm normally against overwhelming internet negativity, but considering I'm personally not a fan of Mountain Dew, Doritos, or the new Xbone, I say let the hatred and vile skulduggery of the internet flow like fine wine.

As usual, what's up with this forum?
Is everyone here a health food nut of the obnoxious variety, or is everyone so starved to say some petty thing about something they don't like that they'll take any opportunity?
All right, fair criticism. Truth be told, Mountain Dew used to be the preferred "wake up" drink at my high school, in part because of the (possibly incorrect) belief that it contained more caffeine than the other mainstream soft drinks.

But, again in truth, I tend to avoid corn syrup-sweetened drinks these days as a whole because I discovered some strong evidence they were having a detrimental effect on my health and well-being.

Mountain Dew, Doritos and XBox have also earned some ragging because they seem to have banded together over a largely marketing contrived "extreme" image, and because of a kind of dissonance between the image all three would project (brave, energized iconoclasts doing heroic things to the awe and envy of their peers) and the reality that the success of their products requires (sedentary people remaining still for extended periods of time while they consume tortilla chips and soft drinks.)

To be clear- Mountain Dew in particular really does contain an unusually scary combination of ingredients. Do a little web searching on brominated vegetable oil- that stuff really probably shouldn't be in there. Will the occasional foray into Mountain Dew and Doritos smite you with the Plagues of Egypt? No, of course not. But the marketing campaign surrounding the combination of products still rubs a lot of people the wrong way, and it's not hard to see why.

But we'll have to buy the Dew and Doritos to enter right? So technically it's not even free.

DEW and Doritos are creating something that is truly befitting of our epic new generation hardware."
Oh it's definitely Befitting alright.

Says a lot about this generation in general.

Good thing I don't eat Doritos or Mtn Dew. I won't be lumped with one of these doorstops that you can never be rid of.

Also, it's looking more and more likely the following rumor is true . . .

Gotta love it when Every time Microsoft does some promotional work it gives new cannon fodder for the competitors. :)

And the really depressing part about this. ItĀ“ll probably work. I have this dystopian vision about Microsoft using its financial muscles to simply drown all the casual gamers in ads and giveaways like this that in the end everyone will be "PS4, whats that?".
