Eaten-by-bug scenes

Of all the worst things that could come from modern technology, I have to say that scenes in movies in which unimportant characters are eaten by bugs are the worst.
OK, sure, it is as scary as Hell and makes great fodder for a horror movie, but the problem is, I don't watch horror movies, but I somehow have still seen several.
You know why?
Because, for some reason, movie producers keep putting these loathesome scenes in action movies! Not only do they appear so frequently in the wrong genre, they are also paired with poor writing and complete pointlessness.
Take, for example, the most recent version of King Kong. I was not expecting gratutious scenes of maneating grubs 'n what not. Or was that in the 1933 version?
Another case, of course, is the most recent Indiana Jones. Pointless, repulsive, and just plain not fun to watch. 'Nuff said.
The scene that particularly bothers me is the one in Hellboy 2. One of the characters they have brutally killed off talks to the main characters, and had the potential to play a supporting role. But then they killed 'em off and didn't mention any mourning whatsoever for their lost co-workers.

So, how do you feel about these scenes? Are they a wonderful new addition to the Action genre? Have I missed a movie with a well made eaten-by-bugs scene that all of these movies are copying?

Oh man, that scene from King Kong scarred me for life. I'm one of those people that hates bugs, so giant ones scare the crap out of me. *shudders*

I liked the scene in The Mummy were this guy gets eaten by those bugs (I know they are some sort of scarabs).

I don't really like those scenes but they are enjoyable sometimes.

Don't care much for them either. The fact that insects could eat me bugs me a little, I guess (see what I did there?)

Yeah, I really hate those scenes too. I remember from some MacGyver episode, there was a support character that was eaten by ants, and I've had nightmares about it afterwards.

Then you guys wouldn't like half of the Sci-Fi Channel original movies. Many of them are about killer spiders, mosquitoes, ants, locusts, and bees. Giant ones, too. Those give me the heebie-jeebies.

Really? You've never had a nightmare? You must know that this was quite a few years ago, when I was a wee little laddie, and such a scene where hordes of killer ants devoured a man alive made a strong impact on my young and pure mind ^^

Hmmm...I liked that scene in King Kong...I don't really mind these scenes. I don't know if I've seen them enough for me to consider them as big a cliche as viruses or parasites.

That thing about Hellboy, BPRD agents get knocked off all the time. In the DVD commentary for Hellboy: Sword of Storms, Mike Mignola said that they die so often because fighting supernatural things is tough for regular humans. I guess Hellboy, Liz and Abe are just kind of used to it by now.
If I'm thinking of the same guy, the one that gets pulled down the stairs by the tooth fairies, I did kind of want him to live.

Trombo! Some crazy recluse with indigenous servants, whereby we see everybody's favorite hero do a spot of welding with some coins and a car battery, then solve the ant infestation by using the labels from old tin cans to make a pretty good bomb to blow up a dam and wash the army ants away.

Awesome episode.

The only eaten-by-bugs thing that annoyed me was in RE4, because your face was digested in giant fly vomit first, yucky.

Although I don't hate them, I'd prefer to not have them over having them.

I'm not a fan of being eaten by anything bigger than me, but I'm not too squirmish so that King Kong scene didnt bother me. However, that scene in The Mummy with the scarab bettles freaked me out when I was little.

You shouldn't be surprised by a beg scene in the new Indiana Jones film, not after Temple of Doom.

It's funny too hate bugs, but the scene in Hellboy 2 didn't even register as a bug scene to me. I saw them as Fairies, and saw more of their human-ish faces and mannerism than any resemblance to insects.

You do mean the scene with those funny little Tooth Fairy things, right? Because it took me a few minutes of thinking about Hellboy 2 (which I watched less than a week ago) to even come up with that.

THERES A GIANT BUG BEHIND YOU!

But Those giant bugs were once roaming the earth and fits perfectly within the Time period of the animals inhabiting the Island so it wasnt canon but it did make sense

And those scarabs make me scared

I havent seen hellboy 2, and what was so bad about indy 4 if you look at it as a comepletly new movie and cut all ties from the past?

The scene in HB 2 was hilarious in it's own way (aww, cute little -whatever- you might be, ... aahhh ... stop biting meeeeeee), but I have to admit that I am not a big fan of insects, giant insects > . >

Then it's still a bad movie. No it actually would be worse because the movie throws characters at you you don't know but everybody seems to know them.
