oooh so now it's not "an external studio made them and it's their fault !1!one!!1!1!1!111!". They made a cool game overall but all that bs after release was not necessary.

well it's nice to see they've admitted and acknowledged it
still remember when the game was first coming out people were skeptical if it would be any good, much less be awesome
makes it all the more likely that they'll offer more options besides "shoot heerrr"/him for the bosses

Look at the bright side; at least they weren't lazy enough to make them QTEs.

I'm the only person in the world who didn't mind those boss fights. It's obvious that if you pick a stealth build, then fighting is going to be harder. In a lot of games, being stealthy requires much more skill than actually fighting the enemies. That's why I don't mind the bosses. But I will admit that Namir is out of control.

Reason all these types of game fail in this area. If you chose a stealth build, then you should be able to beat the bosses with stealth. Every game which is a stealth game or gives you the opportunity to play as stealth character always end up with a gun fight with the bosses.
Not quite. The Thief series included no boss fights.

I don't see what anyone's problem was with the boss fights...

You're given a rocket launcher before the first, you can stock up on a fuck tonne of EMP stuff before the second, and the grenade launcher means insta-winning the last two.

This has been said quite few times already.

Problem was that other than those boss fights you could get through the game with stealth or hacking, but suddenly your only option becomes shooting some morons face off. Not to mention that you don't have to kill anyone else.

Those boss fights just weren't properly implemented to the game when compared to the rest of the game. They would have been fine in fps shooter perhaps, but deus ex really wasn't one, thus they were bad and out off place.

I don't begrudge the boss fights, honestly my only problem was I was always unclear why they wanted to kill me so damn bad. I'm guessing the genetic thing? *shrug* it was still enjoyable and fun.

So they didn't have time to make boss fights, so they hired someone else to make them. Realized that these outsourced fights were shit..... and put them in anyways?

Theres a breakdown in that logic train somewhere. Frankly dx3 would have been a much better game had it just ommited the boss fights altogether. Cept for the last one, that one i was okay with.

Seeing as the grenade launcher was DLC, most people did not have access to it.

I vote for no boss fights. It'd be nice for some games to try and break almost 30 years of unexamined tradition and try to give you a sense of challenge and accomplishment without giving you a tacked-on boss fight just because every other game has.

Seriously, that last installation at the end of the Act 1 of DX:HR was great fun getting through on a stealth run. The pointless boss fight at the end just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I wanted to stealth my way through the game, but when all the reviews came out telling me of the lack luster boss fights I refused to buy the game.

I know im just one guy but im sure if I didnt buy it for this reason others may have followed suit.

Im not sure how often I have to say this..

The boss fights ARE. NOT. HARD.

The first one can bassicly be stunlocked by a EMP granade.. which are found two at least in the very room.

The same applies for the second boss.

The third boss can be oneshot. By running up to him and PUNCHING HIM TO THE FACE.

And the last boss can be killed within the first 3 seconds of the fight, because the particle laser, which you find on your way, can shoot "through the fuggin security glass she hides behind"..

Sweet mother of god who keeps the QQ about the bosses alive..
THANK YOU!
I think I'm the only one who found the boss fights a nice change of pace even though they wouldn't have been my first choice.
But hard? Really? Either people did not test different techniques and just ran into the bosses expecting to win, or they just really like to whine.
I liked the video posted above from the guy from Grip who designed the boss fights. I completely understood where he came from and his decisions. I don't think the bosses are game breakers or completely out of left field.

All well and good if you know they're coming and the first boss was in any way vulnerable to rockets. Even on the easiest difficulty setting 2 rockets to the face won't even cause him to break stride. You could bring a turret in but Jensen is possessed by the spirit of stupidity and drops it behind the door so really all you can do is get a shotgun or assault rifle and unload clip after clip into him. Stun clips can be used to make it easy but first time round it's going to be jarring since it was designed by a novice team with no reference to the rest of the game and was never playtested.

I don't mind the boss fights... I just mind the bosses in general. Unlike Metal Gear Solid (which they remind me of), we never get any backstory for them in the game or any dialogue about their motivations or why they want to kill you.
Indeed yes. I was utterly OCD about reading anything and everything I could get my hands on while playing DX:HR, and I still felt like I walked away with half a story, and not even a half that made sense...

Yeah, ok, so there's a book. But I do feel that I should not have to turn to another effing medium entirely to know what the hell's going, who these people are, and why I should care. I have plenty of other books I want to read, and I'm currently having enough trouble getting through them. (Plus it smells very strongly of Cheap Marketing Ploy.)

I do have some quite specific gripes with DX:HR and the boss-fights themselves are a very minor issue. What narked the absolute bejeezus out of me when playing was...

...when I found solid evidence that Adam was indeed Patient X (like that came as a shock...) in the Detroit LIMB clinic. I would have thought this would be a pretty unsettling personal discovery, but what did Adam do about it? Absolutely fuck all. Granted, the little woman wasn't around to ask, but if it had been me standing in Adam's shoes, I think I would have had some strong words with the boss about it. And even when I finally caught up with 'er indoors, Adam waited for her to 'fess up that piece of info. And the daft bugger didn't even get to say, "Yes, I know, you lying *****."

Bullshit, says I. The original Deus Ex at least let you decide whether or not to make use of whatever info you found (and altered conversation choices accordingly), but not DX:HR it seems. Seriously, if you're going to leave information lying around like that (and from the POV of the player, on a hackable terminal behind an unlockable door is leaving it lying around - hell, that's an invitation in my book), then at least let me use that knowledge once I acquire it! D:
