Let's pretend that Republicans are against regulations that would prohibit this.

A lot of Trump supporters are single issue voters (2nd amendment, abortion, deregulation etc.) The kind of people who will always vote for a Republican. Even a Republican that they don't like.
Let's pretend you're a pedophile. We should lock you in jail to prevent that possibility from happening.
Let's pretend I'm the IRS. Everyone should pay their taxes to me this year.

Which is ironic because of Trump's stances on those issues. Wasn't it Trump who after a school shooting said we should just take the guns away first and worry about legal measures and prosecution later? As in yeah selectively do away with the 2nd amendment rights of citizens without trial or due process. Yeah he's totally Mr. Pro-Gun.
Abortion I'm not sure about. He says he's against it, but he also seems like the guy whose paid for more than a few in his time for various mistresses.
Let's pretend that someone drops a hammer or a bolt. Everyone should wear hardhats on the work site so they don't get hurt.

But lets just step back and look at it. Even if the man of the past thought you meant the Secret Service, the context is Trump hiring a domestic terrorist group to serve as his private army for the express purpose of overthrowing the duly elected government of the United States. And he was still okay with it. That didn't bother him. He was only bothered when SS could be linked to Nazi Germany.
Oh, so everyone thinks the Secret Service is bad, and I'm the only one who doesn't, is that the problem?
