They'll make six to eight really promising IPs.

Then hammer out sequels that look and play more like Battlefield with every iteration.

Thing is, I wouldn't put it past them to add things like that, albeit a bit more subtly.
Remember when the internet freaked out over John Riccitiello suggesting they might charge for bullets?

It seemed far-fetched at the time, though I wouldn't have put it past them.

Peter Moore and EA have been trying to change their image, but seriously, it seems more likely than ever.

And that's the rub. I don't want to hate, dislike, or distrust EA. My feelings towards them only push negative as long as they keep up the momentum. But with the push for F2P already, yeah. I don't trust them to not pull something like that in the future.

Standard distrust of EA aside, it's tough to get super excited about the suggestion of new IP when there's a good chance it will mostly consist of shooters.

And titanfall, although exciting, doesn't have single player. So that's already one that I won't buy.

Sads.

Oh well, making new IP is always a refreshing change from corpse-humping the old stuff.

No, the truth of the matter is that EA will go onto life support the moment their sports lines stop selling.
EA ran their last batch of "new IP" into the ground and they're still kickin', so why change?

Yes, you do need to incubate new ideas. Such a pity that your company has ever had one.

EA, you don't push creative boundaries. You have NEVER pushed creative boundaries.
You buy up developers with valuable properties and milk them until they lose value.

That has been your main business model for the last 16 years.

So lets stop with the masturbatory dross about creating "New IP".
You create new IP like a cicada; 7 years in the dirt doing the same old shit; 2 weeks in the sun making noise.

Wow, claiming they're stagnating an IP before they've even announced the IP's name. Where are we on the Hate Dumb [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HateDumb] Meter?
EA churns out sequels and runs numerous IPs into the ground throughout the history of their company, and you're employing a "Dumb Meter" to chastise people for assuming they will continue to do the same?

Irony.

I just have to ask, who's the pink-haired lass?

OT: I read
"We are working on a new Mirror's Edge game," Soderlund clarified, "and although that's not a new IP, it is a revival done in a new way."
And now my worry for the new Mirror's Edge is starting to rise again.

Also, while I tend to give EA the benefit of the doubt, hearing them say they consider a new Mirror's Edge and Battlefront to contribute as "new" IPs doesn't instill me with a lot of hope. What's to stop them from considering a new Mass Effect as a "new" IP, since Shepard's story is supposedly done?

Just kinda sounds like they're trying to devalue the meaning of the term...

I expect the EA staff meetings always end like this [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODRoEHpUdrU].

Anyhow, at one point EA was actually doing better after the problems they had around 2004 until 2007 but again, they failed to learn from previous mistakes and pretend that their company is like the Energizer Bunny [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smYQeWxa5wg]. In the end even they will get into trouble. I'm not saying that their downfall will be imminent soon but hey, if the shareholders get scared you never know what is possible.

Revival?Fine.Done in new way?Next thing is my brain telling me "This game will suck"...

Due to EA business practice I suspect that new way of doing Mirror edge means
more fights in game, or widen out demographic shareholders says.Or any other
case of "new way" in game instead of building on core values of the game which
is freerunning.
To be fair, mirrors edge was fine for what it was but there is really no room to grow there.
two words to give you some thoughts: Open world. My eyes my glowing like child opening new present.
FPS freerunning is so unused concept (but spiritually awesome) that It just struck me how come we don't have more of them.

No crazy mixing shooting and zombies but pure FPS harcore parkour.

Two things to note: IP is intelectual property. not necessarely a game. now gaming companies most IPs are games, obviuosly, but it could be other things, especially knowing how big EA is.
and secondly, he considers sequel to mirrors edge a new IP. what other sequels are labeled new IPs there?

That would be probably awesome and is exactly what I am talking about. There are great places to go with the ideas of Mirrors Edge. But none of them are served by forcing the developers to make a direct sequel. Better to reboot and do it in a new way than stick to old ideas that serve no one.
