They could donate proceeds from the game towards an anti-game political group? Or Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Nah, Aliens: Colonial Marines you could Play, it was shit, but you could play it.
Though good point on the Political Part.

Offline mode? Well I guess that is a move in the right direction. Now all we have to worry about is the two hundred expansions and endless micro tranactions EA will throw in :p

This would be interesting if 1) they would finally get the offline mode for sim city and 2) integrate sims 4 with sim city. If they actually did the second one only, (and not for full price) I would probably get the sims 4 (once I got sim city that is). Maxis has done it before with the original and sim city 4, so they have no excuse to do it again. Hey, it might actually get sim city to have something positive going for it.

What the fuck does this mean? Remember a time when this meant the same damn thing? Don't they still?

I swear it's only been 10 minutes since the last one... and they're still releasing DLC for it too.

EA: Ker-ching!

It's sad that we've reached the state where they have to confirm that the game won't ship broken.
Indeed, I never thought gaming would get to this point, something is very wrong when you can't just play what you've paid for.
I miss the golden era of gaming :-(

I'm very confused how to feel about this....cause at this point I haven't been able to afford the last few expansions...Supernatural, Seasons, and University Life...just haven't had the money and I'm probably not going to have the money any time soon to "catch up" since my dad just passed and my family has pretty much zero money til the rather small insurance policy shows up.

So what to do? Bypass Sims 3 and just wait for Sims 4? And will Sims 4 measure up? Shall have to watch this closely.

Well, I was originally content with giggling and shaking my head at them for announcing this after the SimCity disaster (I would have waited until E3 at least, but eh..) but that makes for poor discussion.

Is this one going to have obnoxious always online DRM be an MMO too? If so, not buying.
Read the article. Second to last paragraph, last line. I'll quote it for you.

"And to answer the question on everyone's mids, EA confirmed with IGN that The Sims 4 will support 'single-player and offline' play."

So they learned their lesson from Simcity. Thank God for that.
EA said a lot of things about SimCity that turned out to be untrue; some things they knew were untrue.
So only when they demonstrate consistency and not just token attempts at placation, then can we say they have actually "learned their lesson".

Passion and creativity? You mean like how they managed to create an offline version?
It said 'the passion and creativity of it's fans", not itself.

You've got a few typos in that second paragraph, Andy. Allow me to help.
"The Sims franchise is fueled by the money and gullibility of its millions of customers around the world," EA announced earlier today. "Your continued purchasing of the franchise ignites the fire of greed in the overseers of The Sims Studio, driving us to drive them to continually monetize and capitalize on one of the world's most profitable simulation games that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide."

In case there's any confusion about it, the "shocking" remark above is actually ironic, because there's nothing shocking about it at all.
That's actually sarcasm, not irony.

OT: I've never cared much for The Sims. I've stupidly bought the main game (never expansions) for every iteration and each time I've only played it for a few days before getting bored and never returning. There's never anything worthwhile added and there's only so much fun you can derive from trapping your sims in a ladderless swimming pool or burning their homes down.

Plus, you know, EA.

Aren't they still releasing Katy Perry expansion packs?

I don't get why EA bothers with numbered sequels. They might as well use the year instead. Sims 2013.

"single-player and offline"

Isn't that the exact... same... thing?

If the next sims had multiplayer, ACTUAL multiplayer I think i'd buy it. Y'know like that sims online game that got shut down, only with less buy to play and more actual fun.

Or just make a game that didn't make you buy 200 pounds of expansions over again...

But... Single-player and offlin- Wha?
