I watched it, rather liked it for the most part, but realized nothing satisfying was gonna happen once I started the third disk. Which is sad, because what I knew of the series beforehand indicated that I'd love it.

Also, I never understood when people talk about its negative view of humanity; there are only two real evil characters in the series, one of whom is a Diclonius, and the other some psychopath.

I watched it to the end and loved it. Not my favorite, but it's high up on my list. Now, I didn't think much of the gore or nudity. They usually bother me, but in this series it uses symbolism to effectively add to that certain special Elfen Lied atmopshere. (It makes sense in my head, at least)

Skipping everyone else's opinion:...

I freakin' hate Elfen Lied. The first two episodes are promising. Naked chicks ripping people up with invisible arm-tentacles. Great. Crazy guy with a gun hunting people, super.

But the characters are nonsense, unbelieveable and idiots. The writing is sloppy, and the last five episodes feel forced and contrived.

Honestly, it's the best anime I'd seen in a long while. Characters are interesting (if not random), the gore is sweet, the tits are...also sweet, and the whole plot is just beautifully told.

I literally couldn't take it. Too much girl. Also, cute little girl's covered in blood and gore, mercilessly killing people by slicing them with invisible hands.

Didnt like it.

It was Average.


The Gore was ok, the story was interesting but, it had too many Derp characters.
Almost ALL of th characters were idiots.
many of the actual good characters died early on.
It had some of the most bizarre and inappropriate fanservice i had seen.
It would have a good moment interrupted by out of place fanservice.
You saw Lucy Nude more than you saw her character develop.
Plus i didn't really like the art, it was kinda Generic IMO.
And the "Message" it supposedly had was presented in a halfhearted way.
Humans are Monsters themselves and create monsters as well.
Figured that out in the first few episodes.

Over all not a series i would recommend unless you like some mild drama and a lot of Nudity/Gore.

I enjoy Elfen Lied, I have all the episodes on dvd. I think lacking context gore and nudity are pointless (I accept looking badass as context, <3 Alucard) and Elfen Lied had context, to treat Diclonius as animals rather than actual humans, that they don't get clothed out of humility and that they can get slaughtered and no one other than PETA might care. It had content which I've seen in few other anime (though they all lack vaginas for some reason... that's Japan for ya) such as child rape and even included a brief scene of lolicon which I still think was given context in a sad depressing back story of a fairly useless character which kinda explained why she was so useless...

I've never been a fan of comics, and not much of an anime guru, so I can't really say much about it in that respect, or of it's adaptation. But as a person who watched it knowing absolutely nothing of its existence until it was cheap and then bought, it was pretty decent.

Hated it.

None of the characters behaved like real people would,

I think the negative view comes from the fact that many of the Diclonius absolutely hate humanity because of the treatment they got and have no remorse in killing humans.
Humanity acted like monsters too them, and in turn created monsters.

Though that's just what i got, its actually a theme i think is a bit overused.

It put me in a mental coma for four days, the whole impact of the plot really messed with me and in the end I learned one thing, humans suck ass and in truth we all deserve to die. If you step away from it with anything less than that look up the in depth analysis on wikipedia, trust me, as stated I couldn't think or eat for four whole days.

All of that from a hammy anime written by a failed writer who was feeling pissed off and voice acted with the sincerity of a Neighbours episode? It's overblown and exaggerated, deliberately so. It's no profound window into the human psyche, it's a like up of crude stereotypes that would honestly be fuckin' destroyed if it hadn't have been animated.

Oh I'm sorry when was the last time you had an emotional attachment to a character and they get brutally ripped apart in the first few eps and have the most saddest backstory ever? Yes, fuck you, this was a very fuck me type anime, and the ending was sad for me, sorry you don't feel that way about an anime that is so famous and critically acclaimed, but then again, I hate the hell out of halo.

Anyway, OT: The bits of Elfen Lied I've seen were just dumb. The "gore" is untextured red stuff and the story line takes itself way too seriously.

Plus everything else everyone who agrees with me said.

Highschool of the Dead, however, is pure, ridiculous, bloody fun.

My girlfriend and I watched all. It's very good.
The gore and the nudity is justify (and so what if it wasn't).
And the nudity isn't sexualised very much. It mostly happens becaus of total ignorance and innocence.
There are some funny parts.

It's not to long so go ahead and enjoy!

Yes, because it's the point of the show.

I watched it a few years ago. Enjoyed it. It's pretty mediocre though, in retrospect. The plot is horrible, the characters are bland and cliché. On the positive side, the animation is pretty good, and I like the art style. Also, tits and blood. Only thing missing is zombies.

I think it's fucking dreadful and I'm an amine fan too... I have no idea why it's so popular. If you want a good anime with action watch:

well ive watched the series once or twice previously (strangley enough rewatched it all yesterday)
but the gore and nudity (while extremely obviosuly only is there as fanservice) still manages to affect the plot in a positive way... and so i dont think is excessive and once you watch the entire series... the nudity and gore is probably one of the the least memorable things about it.

Looks interesting. I'll look for it. I tried to watch it on youtube and I could only watch a few seconds before it said update account. I'll look for it somewhere else on the internet. I need some more anime to watch. Beside Elfen Lied, does anyone have any recommendations. I watch Bleach and I plan to watch Naruto Shippuden.

Tekkaman Blade, Baccano!, FMA:Brotherhood, and Tegami Bachi are some good anime id suggest,.
Though i prefer the manga of FMA and Tegami Bachi.
