I'm sure a lot of you won't agree with me, and that's why I'm making this topic to discuss. I just feel like we've been overloaded with so many zombie related entertainment material lately and it's just lost it's charm. Countless movies, games, books, and there are even gatherings of people who dress up as the undead and roam the streets.

I'm not necessarily saying that I dislike things like Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead, Zombieland, etc...But why do games devs feel the need to tack on zombies for no reason? I mean why did we need Nazi Zombies? I don't really understand why they added that to World at War other than to cash in on the zombie craze. Now we have Crackdown 2 adding them, Red Dead Redemption coming out with a DLC including them, there are countless flash games (I found one zombie flash collection site with over 200 games), XBL Arcade games, iPhone games, etc. Am I the only one getting sick of these?

Things are great in moderation, and zombies aren't an exception. Hopefully this will eventually blow over like WWII games, and other cultural fads like boy bands.

I totally agree, zombies are really played out. It's because nerds tend to latch on to something and overdo it until it's run so far into the ground it creates an honest-to-god bottomless pit.

Because zombies are easy. Don't need good AI, they're human enough to still be scary but not human enough to attempt to inspire emotions when you kill them, don't talk much so no need for voice acting, and gamers will never tire of blowing a good, mushy brain out.

Well would you rather have zombies or more sparkly teen vampires?

I like zombies, but yeah, it's a bit too much. Especially with these-fangled fast zombies that were created by a virus. What ever happened to good old voodoo magic and a boneyard godammit! *Angrily sticks needles in a voodoo doll*

For whatever reason, while I was typing this topic up I thought of that, and almost mentioned it in my post.

I think we should make a few movies with ghouls (in some mythology they can shape-shift and steal memories)
and maybe Windigos should become more main-stream.

I agree with the Nazi Zombies thing. I love zombies with an unbridled passion, but that really put me off. If the main thing of the game is zombies or something similar, and it does it well, okay. But random tack-ons like you said just kind of kill it.

I have to agree. I've never found zombies to be overly compelling to begin with but it's easily reached the point of "okay this is just stupid." I mean I think we've even reached the point now here where there are more "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse?!?" threads than there are Halo threads.

this will blow over. In a few years people will be complaining that there are to many of something else in games, because that will be the fad.
Anyone care to guess who will be the next big thing after zombies?

Honestly, the internet is making me start hating zombies; it's driving me away from any media that involves them, good or not.

Thanks, internet.

All mean is, "you can stop taking this part of the game seriously". Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you.

Hmm. I've heard one of the big draws with them is that they're just generally considered to be an "acceptable" enemy for a video game. Since they're already dead, there's really no harm in "killing" them again.

Relax it's just the latest fad in pop culture. The Last one was Vampires and the ones before that were werewolves. I bet the next one will be ghosts

Zombies are just highlighted at the moment. Give it three years and the big thing will be Werewolves or something like that.

And although I see a lot of zombie stuff out there, I still love the genre to pieces. It hasn't gotten old for me yet. I just hope the genre isn't too tainted by Hollywood and/or the game industry.

The trick is to know which zombie related things are good and ignore the rest.
