Epic Games' websites and forums were recently hacked, the company confirmed in a statement this afternoon. Epic says it expects everything to be restored in "a few days."

Forum email addresses and encrypted passwords were "likely" obtained. The Unreal Developer Network was not compromised

Yeah, this, this is just pathetic. I'm tired of all this, it's not worth getting angry anymore since it seems to be such a goddamn common occurrence.

As a warning to everyone, if you have an account tied up with a game developer, it might be wise to take care of your info on it. We might just have to abandon ship and start over, the internet belongs to the hackers now...

Why was Epic hacked? They haven't done any thing really rage inducing recently unless you count refusing to release a Droid version of Infinity Blade because Droids aren't restricted enough or something.

I just thought to myself yesterday about Epic being hacked...

Damn.

I guess that is why the site was down recently then.

This is getting stupid. Hacking game companies isn't doing anything for anyone. It's really sad that this is what the internet is coming to.

Well, I guess Sony lost their exclusivity on getting hacked.
Ok, this is getting annoying. We need to pass a new law; hacking into government servers are fine, but hacking into video game related servers carries a minimum sentence of life without parole.

This year is looking like the "Year of the Hacker".

I really don't know how to feel anymore. Sony getting hacked sucked for sure, but now that everybody is getting hacked, at least to some extent, I really have to wonder how the fuck these hackers can get away with it by now. This really speaks something about the state of online security in this day and age.

It feels sort of like a revolution, one that I sort of wish didn't need to happen...

is there any big company ANYWHERE that is going to get the hint and up their security? its getting really hard to feel sorry for companies whose learning capacity is on par with that of a lemming. the argument of "no security is perfect" really falls apart when hack after hack is showing how pathetic their security really is.

it will be sadly hilarious to see the internet taken over by hackers due to websites' collective refusal to ever learn.

I'm no web designer or expert with internet security, but I'm guessing it's not all that easy to hack into a company's network. These people know what they're doing, and they probably have ways around almost every single security barrier a company puts up. They're not being idiots and ignoring all the recent attacks, there likely isn't much more they can do to increase security without it becoming intrusive for users.

This is insane. With the splintering of Anonymous, the upstarts from Ryan and Lulzsec, the whole bloody internet seems to be going up in flames.

What the hell? Epic has been great to everyone so who would want to hack them?

Why would someone hack Epic? That's like hacking puppies, or seals!

ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?

It's like that one kid at school who keeps retelling the same joke expecting the class to keep laughing, but IT WASN'T FUNNY THE FIRST TIME.

In fact, that kid's just a massive douche and I want to punch him. A lot.

Are you serious? Epic has been a dick to a lot of people, look up on their history. Cliffy B. is an outright paranoid douchbag.

Anyway, that being said Epic are a big target. If these guys dipped their hands in honey - the Developer Network - a lot of major companies out there relying on the Unreal Engine can get themselves in a big trouble. It's hitting hard. hitting big.
