In Medieval 2, i was playing Venice, and basically, things were grim and gritty. Even trough half the years of the campaign were passed, i hadn't conquered a lot of areas, just a little from here and there, because basically every single country around me was hostile, and every time i attacked them , the Pope started screaming that i ought to stop. But still, my country survived.
Until the Holy German Empire started to move all his troops at my capital, and most of my armies were far away, fighting the Byzantines. I had about 600 solders at first, and the city had the best defenses available. But several attack later, my walls were damaged and only about 90 men were alive. And then the last attack of the Germans came. They outnumbered my men by horses ,equipment and numbers, so i was screwed. I realized that i would lose the city, so i decided to take down as many of the Germans as possible.I found a small hole in the wall and stacked every single man i could in there (kinda like what the Spartans did in "300"). Most of my 90 men were spearmen and a little bit of heavy infantry, and the Germans had loads and loads of cavalry. The battle begun, they charged, and my men defended their small hole of a wall. I was amazed when i saw that they were not pushed back even an inch, and the casualties were high in the enemy ranks, thanks to my spearmen. But still, they would overwhelm my men, because the odds were unreal. And then , a miracle happened: the enemy general fell, and almost all of the enemy troops turned around and fled.
I was in awe that i still had my capital, and the Germans got a painful blow, since they wasted most of their armies at the walls of my capital. The battle was marked on the main map as an important battle, right in front of the town, and i was proud i survived that.
