Empires Mod, I was the commander. We got off to a bad start because our original commander did a very poor job and left in the middle, leaving us without one for quite a while; leaving us with no research going on, and the enemy overtook us quite a lot on the tech tree.

It turned into a battle of attrition; when I got into the command vehicle, I immediately prioritised for researching powerful turrets to try and hold them back, and asked most of the team to go Engineer to keep things running, build walls to keep them away from our buildings and funnel them into the turret fire. Good thing, too; it didn't take long for them to take out all but one of our refineries, and towards the end, that went down as well. The battle went on for ages; I have no idea how we survived so long; and we were winning on tickets, too. We could have won, if the enemy were not slowly pushing our defences back. I don't know how long we were holding back for; it was a long time, though.

Then, just when things seemed lost; the victory screen. One of our team had managed to sneak past the enemy get into their base (which was poorly defended as they were ALL trying to focus on hammering at us, leaving their commander unguarded) and that person destroyed their command vehicle. Our entire team burst into cheering and laughter, and numerous "Whoever did that deserves a medal!" from myself and a few other team-mates.

I had managed to get our team the research necessary to survive (We were so far behind because of the idiot commander before that we had no chance of winning if we went on the offensive), the team did an excellent job of keeping the defences up and each other alive, and that ninja succeeded right at the end when defeat was drawing uncomfortably close.

Not to mention the enemy team made a grave mistake; they kept charging forward with tanks, and never researched artillery that could have been used to blow our base apart from over the walls.

Research had failed us completely, especially when our resource flow ground to a halt and it was all up to all the people on foot, but in the end the tactical situation was so far in our favour that it was just embarrassing; and they were so focused on us they missed the single team member slip past them and seize victory from the jaws of defeat for all of us.

A perfect example of "A commander is only as good as the people who he commands"; the team was brilliant, and they tolerated and worked well with me despite the fact that I had little experience being the commander and usually didn't do such a great job. They were all fantastic... I want to play Empires again now; the people who play are actually mostly pretty good people.

It was a good, good day.

...That gush was a very uncharacteristic of me.

I was on one side of the bridge in The Parish, where as my team was at the begining, I had a deagle, and I must have killed surplus 50 common infected, 2 smokers, 1 hunter, 1 spitter, and a charger that came towards me.

My final moment was agroing the tank away from my team and towards me as they finnally got to where I was.

They made it alive, and I was Ranked MVP :D

Closest thing I have to this is playing the final mission of the Allied section of Red Alert 3 on hard mode and co-op. It's a tough and timed mission, and we were running out of time. Basically we were just trying to use massive waves of air power to bomb the last target. The clock ran out as I sent my last wave of planes which would have finished off the target, so the enemy's "you lost and I mock you now" video started playing. This was probably the 2nd or 3rd time we'd played the mission, so we were pretty pissed off at that point. However, my planes kept going anyway and bombed the target. After the "you lost" video ended, it started playing the "you won" video and then we got mission accomplished. Suddenly the f-bombs at the game turned into "hell yeah that was awesome!" and such things.

I think any one of the defense missions in Warcraft 3. The first, where you hold out for reinforcements I kept building farmhouses, distracting the final impossible rush of enemies to the castle you had to protect until the mission ended.

The second (Under a Burning Sky I think) all of my defenses caved in. In case you haven't played it, you are summoning a kind of God of Chaos through a portal. As the portal grows (You have to defend it for 30 minutes or so) certain bonus units come through, all of which I saved at the portal. I also got these land mines, formed a perimeter around the terrace the portal was on, which took out some of the final rush of enemies. I also drew several groups of my units and the hero unit you have during the mission back to the portal, and for the last couple minutes of the mission, there was this massive war going on around the portal between humans, dwarves, demons, and lots of zombies (which you could summon from corpses). That was epic.

The last defense mission, I never finished without cheating, but when I went for a clean playthrough, the result was always epic. You were elves fighting along side human and orc forces, but your companions all die by the end of the mission and you are left alone against literally hundreds of the demons and zombies you had played as in the last mission I mentioned (you see, the elf story more or less has you fixing all the shit you caused in the undead missions).

while playing command and conquer generals: zero hour I once was holding off wave after wave of the GLA at full strength and with just a few rangers in a couple of buildings, even when they broke out the scud launchers and a scud storm I was able to survive by using some raptors and bombers to take them out. then a few hundred motorcycles come flying my way and I had to extract my forces to a closer location, so I deployed some snipers to take out infantry and sent in some Chinooks to pick up my rangers. the rangers had made their way there with only a few deaths and I even took a few trucks using the snipers ability to kill the driver and loaded some rangers in it, but then the fire stopped, the enemy had retreated and I thought I had won, but then they destroyed my base. I diverted my helicopters to pick up survivors and bring them to the rangers location. now I had some tanks and some rocket troops, but I had to deplete the resources in the area to kill my enemy financially I had managed to smuggle out a bulldozer, the builders in this game, and built a resource collector for the Chinooks and drained the last of the stuff from the area. I flew my forces in to his base and took out the last of his forces, just one problem, he had 2 bases and I had only managed to take the weaker of the 2 with half my forces dieing. I built a war machine plant and built plenty of tanks to take him out. I now had a place for 2 bases but no money, ho well, I thought, but then scuds just rained down on my tanks, killing most of them. I rallied my forces back to the armor factory I made just too find out I had 1 tank and some rangers I went back to where I was at the begging and held out for a good 20 minutes before I was overwhelmed by angry mobs.

Rome Total War.

Piece of crap city in the middle of nowhere (North Africa), defended only by one squad of hoplites and one squad of Spartan hoplites down to about ten men. One city with no links to any of my other cities, which I was on the point of abandoning anyway (I was Greece and the Egyptians had just taken all the other cities in North Africa.)

It took them nearly five hours to eventually reach the central plaza and capture it, and even then, two of my Spartans got out, and went on to have another crushing last stand against the entire might of the Egyptian army.

I don't often feel this towards games, but the amount of forces it sent after my last two warriors convinced me that I had taught it fear.

I know most of you do not respect Halo 3 but still...

Me & a mate were playing a Single Bomb Assualt game on Valhalla. Everyone on our team had quit & there were 7 members still on the other team. So it was 7 VS 2! We held out inside the base for around 4 mins plasma pistoling & shotty/bashing anyone who entered. Stuck a few & out right fluked LOADS

Maybe it was more down to the other team being dissorganised & just rushing in but we held out for a while but eventually they got their shit together & rushed us all at once...

Lo & behold we were "F*****G NOOBS & we sucked" but hell 2 V 7 for them to take so long we didnt need to say anything we'd stuck around & made em work for their "victory"

I was playing rome total war in the campaign with one of my more diplomatic/pussy family members defending one of my towns with only a handful of town guards and his personal cavalry guards.
I was up against a greek army filled to the brim with pikemen slaves and their own cavalry and felt like I was going to get annihilated from the start and if I lost the match the greeks would have a straight line into my capital which would remove me from the game.
But I used my 40 town guard as a solid block to hold the pikes and cavalry and used the cavalry to smash into and out of combat. The enemy were so confident they could beat the town guard they neglected the cavalry and I ended up winning. But at battles end all that remained was a few brave town guardsmen and three cavalry men.

The noble made it as well and gained about three command stars!

Medieval: Total War XL Mod, Playing as the Byzantine Empire, the bastard Egyptians turned on me and pushed through all my territories until they reached Constantinople, My king and his brave 500 withstood wave after wave of the opposing 3000 men, I left the battle with 300 or so, they were humiliated and defeated, my secondary force returned from punishing the infidels to the west and retook all the territories between me and Egypt, then my main force arrived by boat to assist in the siege of Cairo, it fell.
