No, Reported to Xbox Live or PSN. I thought the Escapist was known for hating pirates. Piracy is essentially stealing money from developers. Modding consoles is fine, Piracy isn't.
Put it this way: this guy only knows his friends mod their console because they TRUST HIM with that information. Abuse that trust, and void that friendship.

And put this into perspective, it's not like he is doing something criminal that could harm anyone like selling drugs to schoolkids. This is piracy for gawd sake, and piracy on consoles at that.

And we all know how the Escapist Community feels about consoles, especially the number of publishers that have given a big F U to PC gaming with the lame excuse of "neuuugh, piracy is destory the industry all of a sudden. $60 console games + $45 DLC is much better for the industry!"

Piracy is a problem, but PUBLISHERS use it as an excuse to got to the much more lucrative, powerful and controlled console model.

Its a lot easier to ban someone from XBL, then to ban them from PC play. What account would you ban on PC? Steam? Most games don't require Steam accounts.
No, actually most games link into Steam. They have over 80% of the PC market.

And PC serial-code + IP adress are added to blacklists that are shared amongst many networks.

Face it, Console are just as vulnerable to piracy as PC. More so, even.

DX?

Surely DE:HR

I believe the only convention of shortening the "Ex" to "X" is with "Explosives"
It's executable in the leak is named dxhr.exe or dxhr5_win7.exe, so I'd say calling it DX is fair.
OK, I think that is as official as it gets. I'll call "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" as "DX:HR"

But the original "Deus Ex" has always had the "DE" acronym so I'm going to keep referring to the original as such.

Why? Because I'm a pedantic twat.

Also, isn't it possible to ban consoles from the network? That would mean no online play. If they keep trying they keep getting banned.
PC pirates can't play online either, since they don't have a unique pass that's required to play on servers.
For some games they can. There are Minecraft servers for people who pirated the game.
The consensus on torrent boards is you don't even need pirate servers/networks on consoles, I can't link to a torrent site (forum rules) but they all talk about the steps needed to run a pirated game on Xbox Live playing with people who bought the game legit.

This would mean Microsoft would have NO IDEA how many people are actually pirating games on consoles. As they can't distinguish them from legit users.

... which involves renting private servers with real money. Modded XBoxes can play online without any of those hassles.

Reading the title I got the image of Cliff Bleszinski being all depressed :'(
Seriously? I picture him setting up a camera to video himself saying a hole mess of stupid shit because he thinks people like to listen to him.

Shame that piracy only happens on PC right Epic? Oh wait, it's ok because it only modded consoles can play them. I wonder how many of those are out there....I'll give you a hint. A lot.

hell, down in Argentina, the console modding is included with buying the console, unless you ask for them to not mod it
unless you buy it in places like, say, an electronic shop

piracy for pc is actually more difficult than console, specially if you want to play online (most of the games you cant), for consoles you only need to mod it, and then you enjoy every last benefit and more (like homebrews) the only down side is possible ban (and i do say possible, since most probably you wont get banned), and the use of the online stores (not sure about this one).

in short,the only difference is:

in consoles you have all the benefits with no aditional problems beside the cost of a external HDD and patching the game, for pc you can only play offline, except if you spend some time looking how to play 1 game online (and not always posible)

i hope this can be understand since english is not my first language.

considering they charge twice the price for consoles (a 160 gb ps3 is around 500 dollards in amazon is 300), and games cost around 80 dollars

is not that surprising

How the hell does a game actually get leaked? I mean unless you host the game itself online there is absolutely no way a leak could happen. Yeah, an employee could leak the game but is your job really worth it?
Well, you pretty much hit the head on the Hammer there. Part of me thinks this was an inside job. Otherwise, it's possible someone could have hacked in somehow, much like the Valve Half Life 2 hack a few years back.

Spoilers. GW3 will be about a burly guy in armor slowly jogging between chest-high walls and shooting at some sort of monster/alien/thing until they shoot the biggest and ugliest monster/alien/thing from behind a chest-high wall. Roll credits.

Yes, because people who pirate a leaked build of a game are the ones who are most likely to actually buy the game.

I was a very active member of Planet Deus Ex between 2002 and 2005. Everyone there abbreviated Deus Ex to DX.
Also, if you can find the original Deus Ex Invisible War logo, you can see Ion Storm originally named it DX2: Invisible War.

Ahh, OK. I accept that is the abbreviation now.

But I only ever followed the first Deus Ex that clearly abbreviated it to "DE" though I accept things have changed now.

[small](I can also appreciate moving to "DX" as "DE" just sounds like a syllable)[/small]

Not always. Some games have multiplayer cracks that allow people to play on official servers.

Also, several of my old mates ran private game servers from their homes, usually modest 16-32 player set ups. One mad bastard ran a 128 player pirate WoW server for a few years. Hate to think how much money he spent on it over that time. WAY more than it would have cost him to just play the legit version.

Another guy I knew had a nice little side business going because of thickos who'd get their console banned repeatedly and skeevs who wanted cheap, modded consoles. He'd buy XBL banned 360s for $50, mod them, then sell them for $100-150 to people who wanted modded 360s and didn't care they were XBL banned. Still keeps him in beer and pretzels as far as I know.
