Perhaps I should have elaborated, I meant individual occurances of epic quality, like the epic ending to CoD4, or the aforementioned epic dragons in WoW.

Ok, I'll stop using "Epic" now....

Any situation where I feel that I'm only a small part of a bigger plan - for example, when I'm rushing into battle alongside scores of allies or when I'm fleeing with crowds of civilians.

Gears of war must be epic, I mean it's made by epic so surely. That's how it works right?
Yea, I can't beleive it took somebody so long to work that out!

Gears 2 looks epic
Hehe, how long did it take you to come up with that one.

I though Okami was really epic. The way you get to spread greenery and flowers over the landscape...

God of war has lot's of epic moments too, as did Mass effect, and that nuke in COD4..

As a matter of fact I think the statement by the OP that epic moments in games are on the downfall is completely wrong. But maybe I'm just easily impressed.
A couple of seconds, if you actually think COD 4 was "epic", yet ome of the shown footage for Gears 2 isn't then theres something wrong.

And GoW 2 is made by EPIC, so its automatically epic...

I haven't played Crysis Wars yet, but in Crysis MP some moments were epic. Fighting while there's nuclear explosions happening nearby = epic.

Also, Total War battles.

I agree with the total war statement, i never get tired of Rome: Total War battles.
With regards to WoW, i don't get that 'epic' feel in dungeons like i used to before tbc. I guess part of it is the drop in raid players required for an instance. Saying that however, the first time i stepped in Kara will always be in my heart.. ahh the music and the environment was beautiful. Compare that with Black Temple.. i was quite disappointed.

It might also be the fact that you're getting used to it. Just saying. Back when WoW was new it was all epic and stuff, even VanCleef was epic. Now it's just a bit boring.

No no no, you've got it all wrong.
This is Epic: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sHYio3nhy5g

Sorry, had to make that joke.
An epic game to me is one that has an AWESOME ending. With the antagonist and protaganist fighting, and maybe being saved by the recurring boss, and then finding out he was a relative or something.

GTAIV Team Deathmatch - when two large teams get into one HUGE firefight in a bottleneck. The scream of bullets, the cries of the fallen, the screen-shaking impact of an RPG round slamming into the scenery nearby.

And all the way through it - a fee hundred yards back with a sniper rifle, sighting up on your next mark.

Epic.

I agree that the new consoles haven't really had anything 'epic' yet, and it seems like the 360 doesn't have anything coming. The PS3 has God of War 3 on the way, though. The previous two in that series are in my opinion the most epic games ever, followed by Shadow of the Colossus. I mean, Kratos can't even open a door without kicking it open and screaming in an 'epic' manner.

Any of the really tricky missions in the Advance Wars series certainly count...those games (especially the very first one) have some maddening difficulty.

But when I want true capital-letters EPIC, I think a full campaign in any Total War or Europa Universalis game qualifies. You can put forty or fifty hours into one of those and even if the last few hours of gameplay have a certain steamroller-like quality to them, the buildup (especially if playing as a faction with a disadvantage relative to the AI) can at times be harrowing.

Well, considering the biggest enemy in Resistance 2 could eat the biggest enemy in Gears 2 without needing to chew it, I think it loses its claim to epic.
Pretty much that. Man I wish I had a PS3.

That's right, gloat Indigo.

You could try a games rental parlour. Considering the area select feature is likely to retrn, you could just book 2 hours with a Ps3 and just get to the mega action. Of course, then you'd lose the plot.
And considering the plot is what made me love the first one so much, I'll pass.

Me and my friend found Brawl to be epic. Might've been the fact that the main theme was sung in Latin and arranged by Nobou. And the massive selection of characters and stages, we were really hyped for Brawl. The loading times are especially epic.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. Considering that you don't have a Ps3, and so probably don't know the plot of the first, I'll assume it was.
Maybe he played it on a friend's PS3. I did.

Who's to say realism can't be epic?

I mean, really, do people seriously think that it's impossible for real life situations to be epic?

Also, some people think that extreme unrealism just isn't epic because it's so easy to punch holes in. (Me.)
Realism makes things all the more epic, because it's harder to do.

I WANT CRYSIS WARHEAD!
Exactly. (About realism, not the warhead.)

It wasn't sarcasm. I immensely enjoyed the first one's plot. And yes, I did play it on my cousin's PS3. He got the PS3 right after it released, and resistance with it. He had camped out to get one, but they ran out. We were visiting my grandparents, and we checked the local Gamestop. They had 2, plus it was right across the street. So we went back to the hotel and got about halfway through the in one sitting. I never did get a chance to finish it, but I loved what I did get to play.
