sigh.... can i just say that the PSA at the beginning was probably the best thing in the whole world and needs to be broadcast loudly at the top thread creation screens in forums. and actually as someone who can read the mayan calendar from school stuff i once did and second hand accounts from actual native americans about it, it doesn't even really end at 2012, 2012 is the calendar version of the 999,999.9 odometer, it will just turn over. back to zero. Now there's my 2 cents.

Now to the reveiw, i understand all that film-making stuff and how it can improve the movie but you have to understand that while it might be good for clever cods like yourself, it's going to be ultimately wasted because the F**king idiots this movie panders to are too stupid to realize it's happening. And while from a pure film quality standpoint it's going to be better than alot of stuff because it has a big budget handed to a man who knows what to do with stuff.

I really don't care how good the movie is because i'm not going to spend any of my money on it because i've already seen the damn thing. My main problem with this movie is the endless ad campaign. i've seen all the money shots, all the action shots and all the edge of seat stuff because the movie is so far up it's own ass that it showed all of this in the preveiw on myspace, on whatever network special, youtube, and in every single f**king trailer commercial. I have nothing against an ad campaign but there is a good one and a bad one and this was a bad which leads me to believe the movie doesn't believe in itself. I've seen so many commercials for the damn thing that i'm wondering if the words "extordinary" or "compelling" flash up on the screen from time to time, and a big voice booming, "THE NEXT BLOCLBUSTER EVENT." oh and thats shot you said you can frame? They have. In my town on my way to work it's framed in a billboard that says "how will you survive? search 2012."

Sure i've seen ad campaigns before, this one spoiled the movie for me. it's like an advertisement for a comedy movie that tells all the punchlines i.e. meet the spartans or the proposal. this movie showed me all the cool shots and intese action sequences so i have nothing left to see unless i really like one of the actors. like, really like, like a meber of a fan club like. A good ad campaign looks like something pixar does. UP and and toy story 2 had great campaigns becasue you knew what was coming but you didn't know how it was going to come about. or even better, district 9, to pull one of bobs favorites, you knew what was it was about but other than alein snafu you had no idea what was going to happen. trailers are to give you a breif look at the generic plot used by hollywood and then some stuff to lure you to the theatre. it not to give itself prerelease appriasals of how well it will do, it is not to show all the best shots in the movie. and above all it is not to annoy or in the case of f**king idiots scare an audience into attendence.

I love Moviebob now. I liked him before... but it is now a love.
Bashing idiots and bashing Micheal Bay... it's pretty much the same thing. Right? Only difference is you are just calling one out specifically.

Like many of the people here, Bob, loved the review, but won't be seeing the movie. I am but a poor broke college student, and such things as fuckballs expensive movie tickets are a bit beyond my price range.

You know, I planned on seeing a movie this weekend but I NEVER expected myself to go see 2012, and now I probably will! Apparently, the George Clooney comedy is crap and so is everything else that's out.

Thanks again MovieBob!

Thank you Moviebob for that public service announcement at the beginning of the review about the 2012 bs. It honestly annoys me how some people believe it and buy whatever crap someone makes that's based on it. I'll agree also that Emmerich definately knows how to make a better movie than Michael Bay, though they still both make crappy movies. Just goes to show you that the only thing we have to worry about in 2012 is Sarah Palin.

I'm a moderator on a forum dedicated to doomsday scenarios, notably 2012 bringing in more people recently yet why am I a moderator if I don't believe in it? Because I'm sane. You wouldn't let someone insane run things (please, no political satire, it's just too cliche).

As for this movie, I may go but then again it will depend on time and money in the next week or so.

(As a side note, you're not how I pictured you Bob)

Thank you, I needed someone to tell me this movie was good (especially after 10,000 BC).
In other news, THANK YOU SO FRAKKING MUCH (Yeah, I said Frakking) for the public service announcement. I hate Doomsday Bullshit from the get go and the 2012 bullshit is especially exasperating.

That was a bloody funny review, especially the part where you showed what the shot of the sinking Californian coastline would look like if done by Micheal Bays. I'm actually seeing 2012 tommorrow, because I just love disaster movies.

It's about fucking time someone else other than me called out the bullshit of the 2012 theory.
Wait, you have actually met someone who believes in it and isn't making money in the process? I mean everybody i know, realizes how silly it is.

I must admit I expected this movie to be good even if it's a cash in on the 2012 theory. The thing is I just cannot watch movies like this because they are such an obvious cash in and when people do that it bugs the crap out of me.
The same thing goes for Jennifer's body it was just a cash in on Megan Fox being hot, well that and the plot looked horrible the acting well it's Megan Fox so that just screams bad acting and nothing about it looked good.

The Mayan calender ends in 2012 but they were thousands of years ahead of them self did anyone stop to think maybe the creators just said this is enough lets take a break? Could they predict there own demise?

Good review, Mister Chipman. And, of course, with a friend convinced the world is going to end in 2012 I made him agree to the foolish bet of if the world doesn't end he owe's me 25$. Oh yeah and the Mayan Calendar doesn't end, its a CYCLE. Like Samsarra.

So... It's basically "The Day After Tomorrow" with more apocalypse and buildings collapsing, less stupid plot like "OMG WE MUST SAVE THAT GIRL BECAUSE I HAVE A BONE- I mean, because we need to stick together and risk several lives to save a female to repro- just help me with it."

I was concerned, as John Cusack movies have been a secret vice of mine since Better Off Dead, but he has been in some real stinkers recently.

And thanks for going into all the detail about the California falling into the Pacific, Bob: it was very educational.

The only qualm I had with Godzilla was that he didn't have his nuclear fire breath weapon. Other than that, I think Emmerich is a damn good movie maker.

Whenever someone bashes a Bay movie, he (Bay) crawls in to a dark corner, cries, cuts himself and makes plans to crap all over our childhood memories. And after seeing 2012, he has something extra special planned for Transformers 3.

Every where I have read they say this movie is terrible. It is long, drawn out, way too over the top, and written very badly. Then there is the horrible way that is rapes the laws of physics in every known way a movie can rape them. All in all I think I will wait till I can download it from TPB.
